Features

  • 150 PSI nitrogen gas-charged pressure actively suppresses fluid aeration and damping fade, delivering consistent rear shock performance under the increased suspension travel of a 2-4 in. lifted classic GM truck or SUV
  • True velocity-sensitive valving continuously adjusts damping resistance in real time based on terrain speed and suspension input, providing stable and controlled rear-end behavior on and off-road
  • Twin-tube construction with multi-stage valving provides a stable secondary fluid chamber for consistent compression and rebound throughout the full 11.03 in. stroke
  • Oversized bonded iron piston head delivers precise fluid displacement and smooth damping force across the extended stroke range required by 2-4 in. lifted applications
  • 5/8 in. diameter hardened, double-chrome piston rod resists corrosion, bending, and surface wear under decades of use on classic K-Series and V-Series platforms
  • Leak-proof seal and orifice disk design prevents fluid bypass and supports extended service life even on older vintage 4WD platforms
  • Red polyurethane bushing at the lower Eyelet/Sleeve mount provides improved vibration isolation and far greater durability than aging OE rubber bushings on these platforms
  • Upper Eyelet mount provides a clean, direct bolt-on installation using factory shock hardware - no modification required
  • Red protective boot included to shield the piston rod from mud, rocks, and trail debris
  • Internal rebound bumper prevents metal-to-metal contact at full droop during heavy rear suspension articulation
  • Shock must mount body-down - mandatory installation orientation for correct function and longevity
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty backed by Skyjacker's SkyArmor Plus supplemental warranty program

Product Description

The Skyjacker N8053 is a Nitro 8000 Series twin-tube, 150 PSI nitrogen gas-charged rear shock absorber engineered for 2 to 4 inches of rear lift on classic full-size Chevrolet and GMC K-Series and V-Series 4WD trucks and SUVs spanning model years 1973 through 1991. It covers the Chevrolet K10, K20, K30, K5 Blazer, Blazer (1987-1991), and their Suburban variants, along with the GMC Jimmy, K1500, K2500, K3500, V1500, V2500, V3500, and their Suburban counterparts. When a truck in this era is lifted 2-4 inches, the factory rear shocks are left operating outside their designed travel range - too short to function correctly at the new ride height, leading to harsh and uncontrolled rear suspension behavior. The N8053 is purpose-built to restore proper damping control with an extended length of approximately 27.07 in. and a stroke of over 11 in., sized specifically for lifted GMT400/C/K-platform suspension geometry.

The nitrogen gas charge suppresses fluid aeration and fade during sustained hard use, while the velocity-sensitive valving adapts in real time to terrain speed and suspension input. The result is a stable, composed rear end whether you're running trails, hauling payload, or driving on-road with a lifted classic truck. The oversized bonded iron piston and 5/8 in. double-chrome piston rod are built for durability across the long service lives these trucks are known for, and the Eyelet upper / Eyelet-Sleeve lower mount configuration allows bolt-on installation using factory shock hardware.

This shock is designed strictly for 4WD applications with 2-4 in. of rear lift. It will not function correctly at stock ride height or for 2WD configurations. A slight spec variance exists between sources: the Skyjacker manufacturer source lists 27.07 in. extended / 15.94 in. collapsed, while ShockSurplus lists 27.19 / 16.16 - the Skyjacker figures are used as the primary reference. Sold individually; order two for a complete rear replacement. Fitment is confirmed through 1991; no 1992 or later applications are listed for this part number.
