Fitment Notes

• Compatible with the 1996-1998 Honda Civic EX, EL, and HX trims only. Does not fit the Civic DX, LX, or RS - those trims use different engine and airbox configurations. For the 1999-2000 Civic EX/EL/HX, see Injen RD1555BLK.
• No tune required. The RD1550BLK is engineered to maintain safe air/fuel ratios across the full RPM range using the stock ECU calibration.
• CARB Exempt - CARB Executive Order D-476-3. Legal for use on vehicles registered in California and all other CARB-compliant states. The CARB EO number is stamped directly onto the intake tube.

Product Description

The Injen RD1550BLK is an RD Series (Race Division) true cold air intake engineered specifically for the 1996-1998 Honda Civic EX, EL, and HX equipped with the 1.6L four-cylinder engine (D16Y8, D16Y7, or D16Y5). It is a direct-fit bolt-on upgrade that delivers dyno-tested power gains with no tune required, and is fully legal in California and all CARB-compliant states under Executive Order D-476-3. The RD1550BLK is the laser black wrinkle powdercoat version; the polished mirror-finish RD1550P is also available.

The RD Series is Injen's true cold air intake line - unlike the IS Series which installs in the factory airbox position, the RD Series tube is routed to a low-mounted cold air location in the engine bay, where air temperatures are meaningfully lower and air density is higher. For naturally aspirated engines like the D-series VTEC and lean-burn VTEC-E, intake air temperature directly affects volumetric efficiency and power output, and the RD1550BLK's cold air routing provides a genuine temperature advantage over the factory airbox. The premium TIG welded 6061-T6 aluminum construction delivers a higher quality joint than mandrel-bent designs - each weld is precision-applied for a leak-free, structurally sound tube that will outlast the vehicle.
