Vehicle Fitment

  • 2015-2022 Chevrolet Colorado - All Trims (WT, LT, Z71, ZR2, ZR2 Bison), All Cab Styles (Extended Cab, Crew Cab), All Bed Lengths, 2WD/4WD - 2.5L I4, 3.6L V6, 2.8L Duramax Turbodiesel (diesel 4WD only)
  • 2015-2022 GMC Canyon - All Trims (SL, SLE, SLT, All Terrain, AT4, Denali), All Cab Styles (Extended Cab, Crew Cab), All Bed Lengths, 2WD/4WD - 2.5L I4, 3.6L V6, 2.8L Duramax Turbodiesel (diesel 4WD only)

Fitment Notes

  • This is a vehicle-specific kit engineered for the leaf spring geometry of the 2015-2022 2nd-generation Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. It is NOT a universal helper spring and does not cross-fit other vehicles.
  • Compatible with both 2WD and 4WD configurations across all applicable trims and cab styles. The 2.8L Duramax turbodiesel is only available with 4WD - the 1252 is confirmed compatible with diesel-equipped trucks.
  • Diesel owners note: The 2.8L Duramax version of the Colorado and Canyon uses a slightly different rear leaf spring geometry than gas models. The small factory retainer clips included in the kit may not seat correctly on diesel leaf packs. The spring leaves themselves function as intended; contact Hellwig technical support at 1-800-HELLWIG (435-5944) to resolve clip fitment if needed during installation.
  • The 2015-2022 Colorado/Canyon was discontinued after the 2022 model year and replaced by the redesigned 3rd-generation Colorado for 2023 - this kit is specific to the 2nd-gen platform and does not fit 2023+ models.
  • Fits all cab styles (Extended Cab and Crew Cab) and all bed lengths - cab and bed configuration do not affect rear leaf spring fitment.

Features

  • Up to 1,000 lb. level load carrying capacity - works in conjunction with the factory leaf spring pack to effectively increase the rear load rating of the Colorado or Canyon up to the vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), eliminating rear-end squat under medium loads and trailer tongue weight.
  • Four-leaf design (two single leaves per side - one forward and one rearward of the axle U-bolts) provides more balanced and progressive bilateral support than a single-leaf-per-side design, distributing supplemental load force across a wider span of the leaf pack for improved stability under load.
  • Fully adjustable load rate using the included heavy-duty U-bolts - tunable with common hand tools at any time to suit lighter or heavier load requirements as towing and hauling needs change, without purchasing additional components.
  • Each spring leaf is hot-formed and heat-treated from ASTM 5160 alloy spring steel - the industry-standard high-carbon alloy for suspension springs, delivering maximum strength, fatigue resistance, and long-term resilience.
  • Black powder coat finish over all steel components for corrosion resistance and a clean appearance in all weather and road-salt environments.
  • Progressively increasing spring rate - the helper springs engage gradually as the rear load increases so the Colorado or Canyon maintains a comfortable, compliant ride when driving empty, while providing firm, controlled support under load.
  • Reduces leaf spring wrap-up during acceleration under load, minimizing axle hop and improving stability when pulling away with a loaded bed or trailer attached.
  • Significantly reduces rear-end squat that causes degraded headlight aim, reduced front-axle traction, imprecise steering feel, and increased trailer sway - all common symptoms of an overloaded or under-supported rear suspension.
  • Simple bolt-on installation using common hand tools in approximately 45 minutes - no cutting, welding, drilling, or specialty equipment required. Comes complete with all springs, heavy-duty U-bolts, plated hardware, and installation instructions.
  • No air compressors, air lines, sensors, or electronic components - a fully mechanical, zero-maintenance load management solution.
  • Manufactured at Hellwig's ISO 9001 certified facility in Visalia, California - made in the USA since 1946, and backed by Hellwig's Limited Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects.

Product Description

The Hellwig 1252 EZ-1000 Helper Spring Kit is a precision-engineered load management upgrade built specifically for the 2015-2022 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. Designed to bolt onto the existing factory rear leaf spring pack without any disassembly, cutting, or drilling, this kit adds up to 1,000 lbs. of supplemental rear load capacity to eliminate the squat, sway, and instability that arise when these midsize trucks are pushed toward their payload or tongue-weight limits. Unlike the universal 1250 helper spring, the 1252 is purpose-designed for the 2nd-gen Colorado and Canyon's specific leaf spring geometry and U-bolt spacing, providing a precise fit and optimized spring arc for this platform. The four-leaf design installs two individual spring leaves per side - one forward and one rearward of the axle U-bolts - distributing supplemental load support across a wider span for more balanced and stable performance compared to single-leaf designs.

Each leaf is hot-formed and heat-treated from ASTM 5160 alloy spring steel and coated in a durable black powder coat finish. The progressive spring rate means the helper springs remain unobtrusive during unloaded everyday driving, engaging gradually as the rear load builds - so owners who alternate between towing a trailer and driving empty won't notice added harshness in daily use. The load rate is fully adjustable via the included heavy-duty U-bolts, allowing owners to dial in the right amount of support for their specific towing or hauling scenario and readjust at any time without additional parts. Installation is a bolt-on process requiring only common hand tools and approximately 45 minutes. The kit comes complete with all four spring leaves, U-bolts, hardware, and installation instructions.

The 1252 is compatible with all Colorado and Canyon trim levels, cab configurations, bed lengths, and drivetrains from 2015 through 2022, including the 2.8L Duramax turbodiesel (4WD only). Diesel owners should note that the included retainer clips may not seat correctly with the diesel's slightly different leaf spring geometry - the spring leaves themselves function properly, and Hellwig's technical support team can assist with clip resolution if needed. The 2023+ Colorado and Canyon redesign uses a different platform and is not compatible with this kit. Manufactured at Hellwig's ISO 9001 certified factory in Visalia, California and backed by Hellwig's Limited Lifetime Warranty for the original purchaser on the original vehicle.
