Fitment Notes

• Fits all 4WD Toyota Tacoma models from 2014-2023 across all cab styles (Access Cab, Double Cab) and all trim levels (SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, Limited, Trail).
• Also fits the Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner (2WD), which uses the same 4WD-style rear leaf spring geometry. Does NOT fit standard 2WD Tacoma non-Pre-Runner models, which use a different rear suspension setup.
• 2005-2013 Toyota Tacoma: Conditional fitment only - the 980 fits 2005-2013 Tacomas that have been updated to the Toyota replacement (warranty) leaf spring pack, which shares the same geometry as the 2014+ leaf pack. The 980 does NOT fit 2005-2013 Tacomas with the original factory leaf spring pack.
• The spring bolts onto the top of the factory leaf pack underneath the axle U-bolts and retains the OEM bump stop - no modification to the factory spring pack is required.
• Two spring assemblies are included - one per side of the rear axle.
• Never load the vehicle beyond the manufacturer's maximum gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR).

The Hellwig 980 EZ-990 Rear Helper Spring Kit is a medium-duty rear load assist kit engineered specifically for the 2014-2023 Toyota Tacoma in 4WD and Pre-Runner configurations. The Tacoma's factory rear leaf spring pack is designed to balance ride quality across a broad range of conditions - from daily commuting to mild trail use - but it falls short under consistent towing, heavy bed loading, or sustained use close to maximum payload capacity. Rear sag, spring wrap-up, and reduced stability under load are common complaints among Tacoma owners who regularly tow trailers, haul heavy cargo, or carry aftermarket bed accessories like toolboxes, rooftop tents, or winches.

The 980 addresses all of these concerns with a single-leaf EZ-990 helper spring that bolts directly on top of the factory leaf pack underneath the rear axle U-bolts, requiring no removal or loosening of any factory spring components and retaining the original OEM bump stop. This makes installation significantly simpler than traditional add-a-leaf kits that require full disassembly of the spring pack. The heavy-duty U-bolts included with the kit serve both as the mounting method and the adjustment mechanism - tighten to increase spring engagement and load resistance, or loosen to soften the assist. Each side adjusts independently for uneven loads. When empty, the spring remains dormant and does not affect the factory Tacoma ride quality.

Pre-Runner models are supported as they share the same 4WD-style rear leaf spring geometry. Standard 2WD non-Pre-Runner Tacomas use a different rear suspension and are not compatible.
