The Eaton 914A643 is a Detroit Truetrac helical gear limited-slip differential for the AAM 9.25-inch solid front axle found in the 2003-2013 Dodge Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 4WD trucks. This 33-spline unit with a 1.37-inch spline diameter and 14-bolt cover is compatible with gear ratios from 3.73 through 4.56. The Detroit Truetrac was the first helical gear differential ever introduced into the automotive aftermarket as an Eaton brand and remains the industry-leading helical gear-type limited-slip differential. Its patented parallel-axis planetary helix gear design automatically biases torque to the wheel with better traction during acceleration, cornering, and varying terrain -- providing smooth, quiet, and predictable traction enhancement in both forward and reverse without the harshness or noise associated with clutch-type limited-slip units or locking differentials.

Unlike conventional clutch-pack limited-slip differentials that wear over time and require periodic friction modifier additives, the Detroit Truetrac has no wearable internal components -- no clutches, no plates, no springs, and no adjustments. This results in a truly maintenance-free traction solution that will outlast the life of the vehicle with nothing more than regular petroleum/mineral-based GL-5 80W90 gear oil. Eaton specifically requires that synthetic gear oil and friction modifiers not be used with the Truetrac, as these can reduce the differential's ability to generate the necessary friction between the helical gear surfaces to bias torque effectively.
