The Cometic C4508-070 is a high-performance MLS (Multi-Layer Steel) cylinder head gasket designed specifically for the European-specification BMW S50B30 (3.0L) and S50B32 (3.2L) inline 6-cylinder engines found in the E36 M3 and Z3 M Coupe/Roadster. With an 87mm stock bore diameter and .070" (1.79mm) compressed thickness across 5 layers of embossed stainless steel, this gasket delivers exceptional sealing for both stock rebuilds and high-output performance builds. The Viton-coated outer layers with PTFE topcoat provide outstanding resistance to heat, chemicals, and fret in the S50's aluminum head-to-cast iron block configuration.

The Euro-spec S50B30 and S50B32 engines are distinct from the North American S50 and S52 engines - they feature individual throttle bodies (ITBs), a different cylinder head casting, and the iron block rather than the aluminum block found on some US variants. This gasket is designed exclusively for the Euro engine's head bolt pattern and coolant passage layout. North American E36 M3 owners with the US-spec S50 or S52 engine should use the Cometic C4329 series instead. The .070" thickness is popular among builders using the S50B30/B32 in turbocharged and supercharged applications where lower compression is desired, or to accommodate head and block resurfacing.

Installation requires clean, debris-free mating surfaces on both the cylinder head and engine block with a recommended surface finish of 50 RA (microinches) or finer for proper gasket seal. Cometic MLS gaskets go on dry - no supplemental sealants should be applied, as the factory Viton coating serves as the sealant. No re-torquing is required after installation. The C4508 series is available in multiple thicknesses from .027" through .120" to accommodate a range of compression ratio and deck height requirements.
