  • This is the DRY FILTER version (part number 42266-D). The oiled filter version is Banks part number 42266. Both intake systems are otherwise identical; the only difference is the filter media type. Dry filters do not require oiling and are typically re-cleaned with compressed air; oiled filters require periodic oiling after cleaning.
  • Replacement dry filter element: Banks 41829-D. Replacement oiled filter element: Banks 41829.
  • The 2020+ L5P Duramax ECM monitors air mass and pressure so tightly that standard aftermarket intakes must flow the same amount of air as the stock system to avoid triggering check engine lights. The patented Banks Air Mass Control Module (U.S. Patent #11,193,441) is what enables this intake to exceed stock airflow limits without ECM-triggered codes - it is the critical enabling technology that separates the 42266-D from all competitors on this platform.
  • NOTE: This product cannot be shipped to California.
  • Sold as a complete intake system kit.

Features

  • Patented Banks Air Mass Control Module (U.S. Patent #11,193,441) - the defining technology of the 42266-D and the reason no competing cold air intake for the 2020-2023 L5P Duramax achieves comparable airflow gains. GM's ECM in the 2020+ L5P monitors air mass so tightly that any deviation from stock airflow levels triggers a check engine light - effectively forcing all conventional aftermarket intakes to flow no more air than the factory system. The Banks Air Mass Control Module is an electronic device that allows Banks' engineers to design and use an intake tube substantially larger than the stock tube without triggering the ECM's out-of-range detection, enabling a 58% mass airflow gain over stock that is impossible for any intake design that lacks this module.
  • 58% mass airflow gain over the stock system - verified by Banks testing, the 42266-D delivers 58% greater mass airflow than the factory intake system - a measurably larger improvement than any competitor tested. Greater mass airflow means denser, cooler air reaching the turbocharger inlet, enabling faster spool-up, sharper throttle response, more efficient combustion, and both power and fuel economy improvements under real-world towing and hauling conditions.
  • Banks SuperTube - oversized free-flowing induction tube, larger than the stock tube and larger than any competitor's intake tube for this application, made possible by the Air Mass Control Module. The SuperTube's large diameter and smooth organic internal shape eliminates the restrictions and turbulence that standard-sized induction tubes impose on the 6.6L L5P's turbo inlet path, directly contributing to the 58% airflow gain and faster turbo response.
  • Banks "Big-Ass Filter" (dry) - the 42266-D ships with a dry filtration Big-Ass Filter engineered with an optimized ratio of filter surface area, pleat count, and media thickness - not simply the most pleats possible, as cramming maximum pleats reduces filter flow and increases clogging rate. The Big-Ass Filter's optimized design outflows every competing filter while breathing evenly from all sides of the filter element, and its oversized dust capacity means longer service intervals and consistent, clean airflow long after stock and competitive filters become restricted with debris.
  • Enclosed cold-air airbox - the 42266-D uses a fully enclosed airbox that isolates the filter from hot, power-robbing engine bay air, ensuring the air entering the turbocharger is as cool and dense as possible. Unlike open-element intake designs that draw hot underhood air, the enclosed housing consistently provides intake air at ambient temperature rather than elevated engine bay temperature - preserving charge air density and turbo efficiency regardless of engine load or ambient conditions.
  • OEM hood and ram-air scoop integration - the enclosed airbox connects directly to the factory hood and front ram-air scoops, actively directing ram-air pressure into the intake system at highway speeds to further increase charge air density and mass airflow beyond what a sealed static box can achieve - delivering additional performance improvement under the sustained high-speed towing and hauling conditions where L5P owners work their trucks hardest.
  • Wheel well side inlet - an additional inlet opening to the wheel well provides a secondary fresh air source and generates an audible, aggressive induction note under hard acceleration - a meaningful secondary benefit for owners who want the intake sound to match the improved performance.
  • EPDM bellowed silicone intake elbow - the large tapering intake elbow connecting the Super-Tube to the turbo inlet is manufactured from EPDM synthetic rubber rather than silicone, providing superior environmental resistance, greater collapse strength under vacuum, and superior resistance to ozone and heat aging compared to silicone. The exclusive bellows design accommodates engine movement without transmitting vibration to the intake tube or creating intake restriction at the turbo inlet interface.
  • Outperforms stock and all competitors in mass airflow, pressure retention, and dirt capacity - Banks validated the 42266-D against both the OEM intake and all competing aftermarket intakes for the 2020-2023 L5P Duramax, with the 42266-D leading in all three key performance metrics.

Product Description

The Banks Power 42266-D is the dry-filter version of Banks' Ram-Air Intake System for the 2020-2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD/3500HD and GMC Sierra 2500HD/3500HD with the 6.6L Duramax L5P turbodiesel. It is the only cold air intake for this platform that achieves a measured 58% mass airflow gain over the stock system - a performance level that competing intakes cannot reach because they lack the patented Banks Air Mass Control Module (U.S. Patent #11,193,441) that is the 42266-D's defining technology. Starting with the 2020 model year, GM tightened the L5P's ECM monitoring of air mass and pressure to such a degree that any aftermarket intake deviating from stock airflow levels triggers a check engine light. This forces every conventional aftermarket intake for the 2020-2023 L5P to flow no more air than the factory system - making their "performance" intake functionally equivalent to stock in terms of airflow. The Banks Air Mass Control Module is an electronic device that reads the intake's air mass signal and communicates correctly with the ECM, allowing Banks to use the oversized SuperTube intake tube without triggering out-of-range codes. No other intake for this platform has this capability.

With the ECM restriction bypassed, Banks engineers designed the SuperTube - an induction tube larger than both the stock tube and all competitors' tubes - paired with the Big-Ass Filter, an oversized dry filter with an optimized pleat count and surface area ratio engineered to outflow all competition while breathing evenly from all sides without premature clogging. The enclosed cold-air airbox isolates the filter from hot engine bay air and connects directly to the factory hood and front ram-air scoops, feeding the intake with actively ram-pressurized ambient air at highway speeds rather than passively drawing stagnant, heated underhood air. A wheel well side inlet adds a secondary fresh air source and produces the aggressive induction note under hard acceleration that signals air actually moving through the system rather than a marketing claim. The EPDM bellowed elbow connecting the SuperTube to the turbo inlet accommodates engine movement without restriction and resists collapse under vacuum loads better than silicone - a material choice that reflects engineering priority over brand recognition.

The 42266-D's 58% mass airflow gain translates to denser, cooler air at the turbocharger inlet - enabling faster spool-up, sharper throttle response, and measurably improved power and fuel economy under towing and hauling conditions where the L5P works hardest. Banks validated performance against both the stock intake and all competing aftermarket intakes for this platform, with the 42266-D leading in mass airflow, pressure retention, and dirt capacity. The -D designation indicates the dry filter variant - no oiling required, cleaned with compressed air, replaced with Banks 41829-D. The oiled filter version is Banks 42266. Note: this product cannot be shipped to California. Sold as a complete kit.
