The AMP Research 96239-01A PowerStep Vision is the flagship LED-illuminated electric running board for the 2018-2024 RAM 1500 Classic, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks. Building on AMP Research's original invention of the powered running board, the PowerStep Vision adds a full-length LED glow strip integrated directly into the board's profile - a feature that serves dual purposes. When the steps deploy as any door opens, the LED array activates at full brightness, projecting light directly onto the ground below the board to guide passengers safely in and out of the truck, even in complete darkness. When the steps retract after all doors close, the LEDs dim and shift to a color-customizable accent mode controlled through the AMP Research SmartSeries smartphone app, giving the truck a distinctive and personalized appearance while driving. The SmartSeries app provides complete command over both the lighting functions and the step deployment, including a manual override - all from an iOS or Android device.

The mechanical foundation of the 96239-01A is the same proven single-motor design that made the PowerStep the industry standard. When deployed, the 6-inch-wide, non-slip textured steps drop significantly lower than static running boards, placing the step surface at an ergonomically correct height for comfortable entry and exit without climbing. The boards support 600 lbs. of load capacity per side - double the rating of most competitor products - and are built from corrosion-resistant cast aluminum with an anodized, military-grade PTFE-coated finish and stainless steel hinge pins. When retracted, the boards tuck completely under the rocker panel, preserving the factory ground clearance and the clean appearance of the truck with no exposed hardware. Anti-pinch technology monitors for resistance and automatically stops motor operation if an obstruction is detected.

Installation uses vehicle-specific mounting brackets and a plug-and-play OBDII module that integrates directly with the factory door sensor circuit with minimal cutting or splicing. However, this application does require drilling, and professional installation or skilled DIY experience is strongly recommended. Several important fitment restrictions apply: the 96239-01A is not compatible with the 2019+ RAM 1500 New Body Style (DT platform) on 6-lug wheels, is not compatible with RAM 2500/3500 gas engine models from 2019 onward, and does not fit Chassis Cab configurations with diesel engines. HD models equipped with factory air ride suspension require a separately purchased Air Tank Relocation Kit prior to installation.
