Vehicle Fitment

  • 2000-2006 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 - 2WD and 4WD, all cab/trim configurations
  • 2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe - 2WD and 4WD, all trim configurations
  • 2000-2006 GMC Yukon - 2WD and 4WD, all trim configurations
  • 2000-2006 GMC Yukon XL 1500 - 2WD and 4WD, all trim configurations

Fitment Notes

  • Without Rear Active Brake Control only - this kit is NOT compatible with vehicles equipped with the optional Rear Active Brake Control (ABC) system; the ABC system uses a dedicated rear brake pressure modulator/actuator with different hydraulic hose routing and connection points that are not served by this kit's hose configuration; verify whether your vehicle has Rear Active Brake Control before ordering; this option was available on select 2000-2006 Suburban and Yukon XL models
  • 4-wheel disc brakes required - this kit is configured for vehicles with front and rear disc brakes; verify your vehicle's rear brake configuration before ordering
  • Stock suspension height only - hose lengths are sized for factory ride height; lifted vehicles require extended-length hoses; do not install this kit on a vehicle with a suspension lift
  • 2WD and 4WD both covered by this kit
  • Direct bolt-on - no cutting of steel hard brake lines required; all 5 hoses replace the factory flexible brake hose sections at their original connection points
  • Salt-belt / corrosion note: if the kit includes aluminum crush washers at banjo bolt connections, replacing them with copper crush washers of the same size before installation is strongly advised in states where roads are salted in winter, to prevent galvanic corrosion between aluminum washers and steel calipers

Features

  • Braided stainless steel outer construction - the stainless steel braid prevents outward expansion of the inner hose liner under brake system pressure, resists abrasion and physical damage from road debris and undercarriage contact, and eliminates the ozone cracking, UV hardening, and internal delamination that progressively degrade OEM rubber brake hoses over time; the polished braid also provides a cleaner underhood and undercarriage appearance than the black rubber OEM hoses
  • Firmer, more responsive pedal feel - the primary driver of the braided hose upgrade is the elimination of hose wall expansion under pressure; when OEM rubber hoses balloon under hydraulic pressure, they absorb pedal travel before that force reaches the caliper pistons, creating the mushy, long-travel pedal feel that develops as hoses age; the stainless braid eliminates this compliance, directing pedal input immediately to the calipers for a shorter dead-band and firmer initial bite; this improvement is especially noticeable on high-mileage vehicles where the original hoses have softened
  • 5-hose complete kit covering all flexible brake hose positions - the kit replaces all of the vehicle's flexible rubber brake hose sections (the moving sections between the chassis hard lines and the calipers/axle); the 5-hose count covers two front caliper supply hoses and three rear positions (accounting for the Suburban/Yukon/Tahoe's rear axle brake hose routing with a splitter arrangement); this is a complete vehicle installation with no additional hose purchases required for the base application
  • Zinc-plated OEM-style fittings, factory assembled - hose end fittings are produced with OEM thread specifications for direct threaded engagement at every factory brake hard line connection and caliper banjo fitting; factory pre-assembly ensures correct hose end orientation and sealing surface integrity before installation
  • DOT street legal - meets FMVSS-571.106 (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 106, Hydraulic and High-Pressure Hose Assemblies); this is the federal standard governing brake hose burst pressure, end fitting retention, tensile load, water absorption, chemical resistance, and dimensional requirements; 50-state street legal for road-registered vehicles
  • Made in the USA - Russell Performance Products is an Edelbrock brand, manufactured in the United States

Product Description

The Russell 672450 is the Street Legal Braided Stainless Steel Brake Hose Kit for the 2000-2006 Chevrolet Suburban 1500, Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL 1500 - a direct-fit 5-hose replacement set covering all flexible brake hose positions on these GMT800-platform full-size SUVs. Russell Performance, part of the Edelbrock family, has produced street legal braided brake hose kits as direct-fit replacements for OEM rubber hoses since the 1980s, with the 672450 specifically engineered for the factory brake hose routing geometry of these Chevrolet and GMC platforms.

The performance case for the upgrade is straightforward: OEM rubber brake hoses expand radially under hydraulic pressure before that pressure transmits to the caliper pistons, creating pedal compliance that worsens progressively as the hose material ages and softens. The stainless steel braid in the Russell hoses constrains this radial expansion, making brake pedal response more immediate and consistent. The effect is most pronounced on higher-mileage vehicles where factory hoses have been in service long enough to develop internal wear, softening, or the onset of internal delamination that precedes outright failure.

Two fitment restrictions are critical: this kit is for stock suspension height only - installed on a lifted vehicle, the factory-length hoses will be placed under tension that risks hose failure or restricted actuation at full suspension travel. More importantly, this kit is designed for vehicles without the optional Rear Active Brake Control system - the ABC system uses a dedicated brake pressure modulator with different rear hose routing that is not served by this kit's hose set. All 5 hoses are pre-assembled with zinc-plated OEM-thread fittings and install as direct bolt-on replacements at the factory flexible hose positions, with no cutting of the vehicle's steel hard brake lines required. DOT compliant to FMVSS-571.106, legal in all 50 states.
