Vehicle Fitment

  • 1979-2009 Ford Mustang - Ford 8.8" rear differential, 28-spline, factory Trac-Loc limited-slip

Fitment Notes

  • Fits vehicles equipped with a genuine Ford Trac-Loc limited-slip differential only - not compatible with an open (standard) differential
  • 28-spline only; confirm your axle spline count before ordering, as some model years and trims used a different spline count
  • A secondary source also lists this same spring for other Ford 8.8"/28-spline Trac-Loc applications, potentially including the Mercury Grand Marquis and Ford Fairmont - if fitting a non-Mustang vehicle, confirm your differential and spline count match before ordering
  • Sold individually

Product Description

The Yukon YSPSPR-004 is a replacement lock spring for the Ford 8.8" Trac-Loc limited-slip differential, found in Mustangs equipped with factory Trac-Loc from 1979 through 2009. This spring is part of the clutch pack assembly that provides the differential's limited-slip action - as it wears or weakens over time, the Trac-Loc can lose clamping force, leading to reduced traction, one-wheel-spin behavior, or inconsistent limited-slip performance.

Made from stainless steel for corrosion resistance and built to meet or exceed OEM specifications, this spring is a straightforward, low-cost fix for restoring proper Trac-Loc function without replacing the entire clutch pack or differential. Because this is a Trac-Loc-specific component, confirming your differential actually has factory Trac-Loc - rather than an open differential - is essential before ordering.

Installation takes about 30 minutes and involves removing the differential cover and accessing the Trac-Loc carrier internals, a straightforward job for anyone comfortable with basic differential work, and a common step during a broader Trac-Loc service or rebuild.
