Product Description

The Turbosmart TS-0203-1215 Kompact Plumb Back is a full-recirculating billet aluminum bypass valve designed as a direct OEM replacement for the stock plastic bypass valve on the 2001-2007 Subaru Impreza WRX, 2001-2021 WRX STI, and 2004-2008 Forester XT. It mounts to the factory bypass valve flange location on EJ-platform engines with no modifications, and produces no audible blow-off sound - all excess boost pressure is recirculated back into the intake system ahead of the turbocharger inlet on every throttle lift.

The plumb-back configuration is the correct choice for street-driven EJ-platform builds running a MAF-based ECU tune, which describes every stock WRX and STI. When a vent-to-atmosphere BOV dumps metered intake air to atmosphere, the ECU - which calculated fuel delivery based on that measured air mass - injects fuel for air that never entered the engine, producing a rich stumble followed by a lean spike that degrades drivability and, on tunes running aggressive air-fuel targets, can cause detonation. The Plumb Back eliminates this entirely: all metered air returns to the intake system, the ECU's calculations remain accurate, and the boost piping is still fully vented to prevent compressor surge. The only difference compared to a VTA BOV is the absence of any audible sound on lift.

The OEM plastic bypass valve on these EJ models has two failure modes: the rubber diaphragm mechanism degrades with heat cycling and age, and the plastic body develops stress cracks - both manifesting as boost leaks and inconsistent valve operation. The Kompact's billet aluminum body and precision-machined piston replace both failure points. The Kompact profile is intentionally compact to fit the constrained EJ engine bays of the WRX and STI without clearance or routing issues.
