Vehicle Fitment

  • 1992-1996 Honda Prelude (4th Gen - BB1/BB2/BB4): S, Si, Si 4WS, VTEC - Front OR Rear upper control arm ball joint
  • 1997-2001 Honda Prelude (5th Gen - BB6/BB8): Base, Type SH, 1995 SE - Rear upper control arm ball joint only
  • 1992-1994 Acura Vigor: GS, LS - Front OR Rear upper control arm ball joint

Fitment Notes

  • Position-specific by generation: on 1992-1996 Prelude (4th gen) and 1992-1994 Acura Vigor, the 67165 fits both the front and rear upper control arm ball joint positions; on 1997-2001 Prelude (5th gen), the 67165 fits the rear upper ball joint only - the 5th gen front upper ball joint is a larger size requiring a different part
  • Sold individually - one ball joint per wheel; order the quantity needed for both sides
  • This is a ±1.5° standard-range adjustable ball joint - for correction needs greater than 1.5°, the SPC extended-range ball joint (SPC #67360, 0° to +3.0°) is the recommended upgrade for this same application
  • Installation requires a ball joint press; SPC Performance Ball Joint Press #40920 is the recommended tool (sold separately)
  • Compatible with both stock ride height vehicles and vehicles lowered for performance
  • SPC limited lifetime warranty applies; professional installation recommended

Features

  • ±1.5° adjustable camber correction - replaces the fixed factory upper ball joint with a sliding plate assembly that can be positioned to add or remove up to 1.5° of camber at the front or rear upper control arm; provides correction for both mild lowering-induced camber changes and factory alignment deviation within the ±1.5° window
  • Sliding plate design - the adjustable mechanism uses a precision sliding plate that moves the ball joint pivot point laterally within the control arm mounting, changing the effective camber angle; the plate is set to the desired position and locked during installation; this is a set-at-install design (not in-car adjustable after installation without removing the joint)
  • OEM-equivalent ball joint quality - the ball joint itself meets OEM strength and durability standards; the 67165 is a direct replacement for the factory upper ball joint that adds camber adjustability; it does not sacrifice joint strength or service life for adjustability
  • Dual-position application on 4th gen Prelude - uniquely, the 67165 fits both the front and rear upper ball joint positions on the 1992-1996 Honda Prelude (and 1992-1994 Acura Vigor), which share the same ball joint specification; this eliminates the need to source different part numbers for front and rear correction on these chassis
  • Addresses camber deviation caused by lowering on the Prelude's upper-arm front suspension - the Honda Prelude uses a double-wishbone suspension layout front and rear, meaning camber is determined partly by upper control arm geometry; lowering the vehicle changes the arm's operating angle and introduces camber that cannot be corrected through the standard alignment adjustment provisions on these chassis without an adjustable ball joint
  • Preferred by professional alignment technicians - SPC adjustable ball joints are the industry standard for double-wishbone Honda and Acura platforms; the 67165 is one of the most commonly specified SPC components for 4th and 5th gen Prelude alignment correction
  • Estimated installation time: ~0.6 hr/side

Product Description

The SPC 67165 is an adjustable upper ball joint for 1992-2001 Honda Prelude and 1992-1994 Acura Vigor. It provides ±1.5° of camber correction by replacing the fixed factory upper ball joint with a sliding plate assembly that relocates the ball joint pivot point to change the effective camber angle at the upper control arm. On 4th gen Prelude (1992-1996) and Acura Vigor (1992-1994), the 67165 fits both the front and rear upper ball joint positions - these generations share the same ball joint specification across both axles. On 5th gen Prelude (1997-2001), the 67165 fits the rear upper position only, as the front upper ball joint on this generation uses a larger specification that requires a different part.

The primary application is camber correction on lowered Honda Prelude chassis. The Prelude uses double-wishbone suspension front and rear, a configuration where camber is strongly influenced by upper control arm geometry. When the vehicle is lowered, the upper arm operates at a steeper angle than designed, pushing camber negative in a way that cannot be corrected through standard alignment adjustments without modifying the ball joint pivot position. The 67165 restores up to ±1.5° of correction in either direction - enough to bring mildly lowered Preludes back to factory camber specification or to dial in mild negative camber for performance driving. For vehicles lowered more aggressively that require more than 1.5° of correction, SPC's extended-range version (67360, 0° to +3.0°) is the appropriate upgrade.

The ball joint itself meets OEM strength requirements - the adjustability is achieved through the sliding plate mounting assembly, not by compromising the joint itself. Installation requires a ball joint press; SPC's #40920 Performance Ball Joint Press is the recommended tool (sold separately). The 67165 is a set-at-install design, meaning camber is set when the joint is pressed into the control arm and locked - it is not adjustable after installation without removing the joint and reinstalling it. Estimated installation time is approximately 0.6 hours per side. The 67165 is sold individually and carries SPC's lifetime warranty.
