Vehicle Fitment

  • Universal - compatible with any SPAL Plus Series (2nd generation) brushless fan. Not compatible with SPAL's older Gen 1 brushless fans/controllers, which use a different electrical signal system.

Fitment Notes

  • CRITICAL: Using the wrong temperature trigger range for the application inverts fan behavior - the fan will run at FULL speed when the vehicle is cold, and slow down as temperature rises. This creates a real overheating risk on long drives, since the fan is doing the opposite of what's needed as coolant temperature climbs. Confirm the correct sensor range (165P, 185P, 195P, or 215P) matches the intended thermostat/operating temperature for the specific cooling circuit (radiator vs. transmission cooler, etc.) before installation.
  • SPAL's brushless fans cannot be activated with a standard relay/switch setup - they require a negative PWM signal, which a traditional fan relay cannot supply. This sensor (paired with the required harnesses) is one way to provide that signal if the vehicle's ECU/controller cannot.
  • This sensor alone does not connect the fan - it requires the SBL-TS-HARN harness (to connect the sensor to the fan side) and one SBL-YAZ-PT10 pigtail harness per fan used. Both are typically sold separately unless bundled.
  • When running multiple fans, only one sensor and one SBL-TS-HARN are needed for the whole system - but a separate SBL-YAZ-PT10 is still required for each individual fan. Up to 12 fans can be run off a single sensor.

Features

  • 190°F to 215°F variable temperature trigger range
  • 12VDC operation
  • 3/8" NPT thread for direct installation into a radiator, block, or cooler port
  • Standard Deutsch DT06-4S DT Series 4-socket connector
  • Enables true variable-speed operation on compatible SPAL brushless fans - fan speed scales with actual temperature rather than a simple on/off trigger

Specifications

  • Trigger range: 190°F (fan on/low speed) to 215°F (fan full speed)
  • Voltage: 12VDC
  • Thread size: 3/8" NPT
  • Connector type: Deutsch DT06-4S, 4-socket
  • Compatible generation: SPAL Plus Series (2nd gen brushless) only

Included Components

  • 1x SPAL Plus Series temperature control sensor, 190-215°F

Product Description

The SPAL SBL-TSI-215P-PKG is a 190°F to 215°F variable temperature sensor built specifically for SPAL's Plus Series (2nd generation) brushless fans, threading directly into a 3/8" NPT port on a radiator or engine block to provide real-time coolant temperature data to the fan's control system. As coolant temperature rises from 190°F toward 215°F, the fan ramps up proportionally - turning on gradually rather than snapping to full speed at a single threshold, and staying quieter and more efficient during normal operating conditions.

This particular trigger range is a common choice for a primary radiator circuit running a standard 180-190°F thermostat, while SPAL's lower-range sensors (like the 165P) are typically used on secondary circuits like transmission or oil coolers that need to activate at a lower temperature. Getting the sensor range matched to the actual cooling circuit matters - a real-world example from an off-road builder pairs the 165P on a transmission cooler and the 215P on the radiator, each tuned to that circuit's actual operating temperature.

The most important thing to get right with this part is confirming it's the correct trigger range for the application before install. Using a mismatched sensor doesn't just underperform - it inverts the fan's behavior entirely, running the fan fastest when the engine is cold and slowest when it's hot, which is a genuine overheating risk on a long drive rather than just a minor tuning issue. This sensor also doesn't work in isolation - it needs the SBL-TS-HARN harness and one SBL-YAZ-PT10 pigtail per fan to complete the circuit, and none of SPAL's brushless fans can be run off a traditional relay/switch setup without this kind of PWM-capable control system in place.
