Vehicle Fitment

  • Universal - compatible with any SPAL Plus Series (2nd generation) brushless fan. Not compatible with SPAL's older Gen 1 brushless fans/controllers, which use a different electrical signal system.

Fitment Notes

  • CRITICAL: Using the wrong temperature trigger range for the application inverts fan behavior - the fan runs at FULL speed when cold and slows down as temperature rises, creating a real overheating risk on longer drives. Confirm the correct sensor range (165P, 185P, 195P, or 215P) matches the intended cooling circuit's actual operating temperature before installation.
  • Diagnostic tip: if a mismatched sensor is installed and someone tries to override the fan to full speed using the blue override wire, the fan will either not run at all, only clock/wiggle, or run very slowly - this is a reliable sign the wrong sensor is installed, separate from observing the inverted temperature response directly.
  • Well suited to secondary/lower-temperature cooling circuits - transmission coolers, oil coolers - rather than a primary radiator circuit, which typically calls for a higher-range sensor (185P, 195P, or 215P).
  • Requires the SBL-TS-HARN harness (to connect the sensor to the fan side) and one SBL-YAZ-PT10 pigtail harness per fan used - sold separately unless bundled.
  • When running multiple fans, only one sensor and one SBL-TS-HARN are needed total, but a separate SBL-YAZ-PT10 is still required for each individual fan. Up to 12 fans can be run off one sensor.

Product Description

The SPAL SBL-TSI-165P-PKG is a 140°F to 165°F variable temperature sensor for SPAL's Plus Series brushless fans, threading into a 3/8" NPT port to give the fan real-time temperature feedback for a lower-temperature cooling circuit. This range is a common choice for secondary cooling loops - transmission coolers and oil coolers, in particular - where the target operating temperature runs cooler than a primary radiator circuit, and starting the fan earlier at 140°F helps keep those systems from creeping up before the fan is doing meaningful work.

A real-world builder example illustrates this well: pairing the 165P on a transmission cooler (on at 140°F, full speed by 165°F) alongside a higher-range sensor like the 215P on the radiator itself, each tuned to that specific circuit's actual thermostat or operating range rather than using one sensor across the whole vehicle.

As with SPAL's other Plus Series sensors, getting the range wrong is more than a performance issue - it inverts the fan's logic entirely, running full speed when cold and slowing down as things heat up, which is a genuine overheating risk rather than just suboptimal tuning. There's also a useful diagnostic check for a mismatched sensor beyond watching the temperature behavior: trying to override the fan to full speed with the blue wire and seeing it fail to run, only clock or wiggle, or spin very slowly is a strong sign the wrong sensor is installed. This sensor still needs the SBL-TS-HARN and a per-fan SBL-YAZ-PT10 pigtail to complete a working install - neither is included here.
