  • 1997-2003 Ford F-150 2WD - Rear: 0-1" lift

Fitment Notes

  • On 1977-1979 Ford F-100/F-150 4WD: the 3-4" front lift application mounts BEHIND the axle (B); the 5-6" front lift application mounts AHEAD of the axle (A) - confirm bracket position before ordering
  • On 1978-1979 Ford Bronco 4WD: the 3.5-4" lift application mounts AHEAD of the axle (A); the 5-6" lift application mounts BEHIND the axle (B)
  • On 1977.5-1979 Ford F-250 4WD High Boy: the 3.5-4" front lift application uses this shock in conjunction with the Skyjacker M9514 dual front shock kit
  • On 1980-1986 Ford F-250 4WD (IFS): the 5-8" front lift application pairs with Skyjacker M9579 at the rear
  • On 1997-2003 Ford F-150 2WD: this shock is used in the REAR position at 0-1" lift - confirm position (front vs. rear) for your application before ordering
  • Lift height ranges listed are for the front position except where noted; always cross-reference the correct rear shock for your specific platform and lift height
  • Sold individually; order 2x for a complete front or rear pair
  • Replacement mounting hardware (washers, bushings, and nuts) is included; factory shock mounting bolts are reused
  • Upper mount is stud-style (S1); lower mount is eye-style (ES25) - confirm mount compatibility with your existing suspension hardware before ordering

Features

  • Single-tube monotube design keeps hydraulic fluid and nitrogen gas separated by a floating piston, eliminating cavitation and maintaining consistent damping during sustained off-road use and heavy towing
  • High-pressure nitrogen gas charge combined with floating piston technology delivers the fastest shock response in Skyjacker's lineup - no fade, no lag under any operating condition
  • Large 46mm bore provides superior damping capacity and greater fluid volume for consistent performance through repeated heavy compression cycles
  • 180-degree directional mounting accommodates both ahead-of-axle and behind-axle installation positions across the full range of supported Ford applications
  • Chromed piston rod features a micro-polished shaft that reduces seal wear and extends service life under demanding trail, towing, and daily-driving conditions
  • Custom-tuned valving specific to each vehicle application and lift height range ensures optimized damping response calibrated to each platform's actual sprung weight and suspension geometry
  • Internal bump stop prevents metal-to-metal contact at full compression, protecting the shock body and connected suspension hardware
  • Consistent fade-free performance across the full operating temperature range, even during extended high-frequency input cycles
  • Polyurethane lower eye bushing (EB1) provides durability superior to OEM rubber bushings, resisting petroleum exposure and UV degradation
  • Limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser for the duration of vehicle ownership

Product Description

The Skyjacker M9556 is an M95 Performance Monotube shock absorber covering a focused set of classic Ford truck and Bronco applications, primarily serving as a front shock for moderately-to-heavily lifted 1970-1986 Ford 4WD platforms. On 1970-1976 F-100/F-150 4WD trucks it handles the 1.5-4" dual front shock configuration. On 1977-1979 F-100/F-150 4WD trucks it covers both 3-4" behind-axle and 5-6" ahead-of-axle front positions - two distinct mounting orientations that must be confirmed before ordering. On the 1978-1979 Ford Bronco 4WD it similarly spans 3.5-4" and 5-6" front lift in opposite axle positions. For the 1977.5-1979 F-250 4WD High Boy, it covers 1-3" and 3.5-4" front lift, the latter in conjunction with a dual shock setup using the Skyjacker M9514. On the 1980-1986 F-250 4WD with IFS, it handles 5-6" and 5-8" of front lift. Additionally, the M9556 serves as a rear shock on 1997-2003 Ford F-150 2WD at stock and 0-1" lift height.

The M9556 shares the same core M95 monotube architecture as the rest of the series: a high-pressure nitrogen charge, a floating piston isolating gas from hydraulic fluid, and a large 46mm bore that provides greater fluid volume and damping surface area than conventional twin-tube designs. This combination eliminates cavitation and heat-induced fade under sustained compression cycles - a particularly important characteristic for large, heavy 4WD trucks running significant lift heights, where shock loads are amplified compared to stock-height applications. Each unit is custom-tuned for its specific vehicle application and lift height range, meaning the valving is calibrated to the actual suspension geometry and sprung weight of each Ford platform rather than adapted from a generic specification.

Installation requires attention to axle mount position on several of these Ford 4WD applications: the 1977-1979 F-100/F-150 and 1978-1979 Bronco each use this shock in either an ahead-of-axle or behind-axle position depending on lift height - confirm your bracket location before ordering. The M9556 uses a stud upper mount (S1) and eye lower mount (ES25) with a polyurethane EB1 bushing. Sold individually - order two for a complete front or rear installation. All necessary mounting hardware is included; factory bolts are reused.
