Vehicle Fitment

  • 1987-1996 Jeep Wrangler YJ 4WD (All Trims) - Front: 5-6" lift
  • 1997-2003 Ford F-150 4WD & SuperCrew 4WD (All Trims) - Rear: 1-5" lift

Fitment Notes

  • On 1987-1996 Jeep Wrangler YJ: this shock is used in the FRONT position at 5-6" of lift; pair with Skyjacker M9558 for the rear at the same lift height
  • On 1997-2003 Ford F-150 & SuperCrew 4WD: this shock is used in the REAR position at 1-5" of lift; pair with Skyjacker M9597 for the front at 5-6" lift
  • The 1997-2003 SuperCrew fitment is confirmed - confirm cab style before ordering as shock mount locations may vary
  • Sold individually; order 2x for a complete front or rear pair
  • Replacement mounting hardware (washers, bushings, and nuts) is included; factory shock mounting bolts are reused
  • Upper mount is stud-style (S1); lower mount is eye-style (ES25) - confirm mount compatibility with your existing suspension hardware before ordering

Features

  • Single-tube monotube design separates hydraulic fluid and nitrogen gas via a floating piston, eliminating cavitation and delivering consistent damping under sustained high-lift off-road use
  • High-pressure nitrogen gas charge combined with floating piston technology delivers the fastest shock response in Skyjacker's lineup - no fade, no lag at any point in the travel range
  • Large 46mm bore provides superior damping capacity and greater fluid volume for consistent performance through repeated heavy compression cycles typical of 5-6" lifted builds
  • 180-degree directional mounting allows flexible installation positioning across varied shock tower and bracket configurations
  • Chromed piston rod features a micro-polished shaft that reduces seal wear and extends service life under demanding trail and towing conditions
  • Custom-tuned valving specific to each vehicle application and lift height range optimizes damping response for the platform's actual sprung weight and suspension geometry
  • Internal bump stop prevents metal-to-metal contact at full compression, protecting the shock body and surrounding suspension hardware
  • Extended travel accommodates the increased suspension articulation inherent in 5-6" lift configurations on both the YJ and F-150 platforms
  • Polyurethane lower eye bushing (EB1) provides superior durability over OEM rubber, resisting petroleum exposure and UV degradation
  • Limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser for the duration of vehicle ownership

Product Description

The Skyjacker M9561 is an M95 Performance Monotube shock absorber purpose-built for two high-lift applications: the front suspension of the 1987-1996 Jeep Wrangler YJ at 5-6" of lift, and the rear suspension of the 1997-2003 Ford F-150 and SuperCrew 4WD at 1-5" of rear lift. With an extended length of 30.46 inches and a collapsed length of 17.42 inches, the M9561 delivers 13.04 inches of travel - substantially more than shorter-stroke shocks used in moderate-lift applications - making it appropriate for the full articulation demands of a 5-6" lifted YJ front end and the extended rear stroke of a heavily lifted F-150. Both applications are custom-tuned to the specific platform geometry and expected lift range, rather than derived from a shared generic valving specification.

As with all shocks in the M95 series, the M9561 uses a monotube single-tube construction with a high-pressure nitrogen charge and floating piston that keeps the gas and hydraulic fluid permanently isolated. This eliminates the cavitation and thermal fade that can affect twin-tube shocks under the high-frequency, high-amplitude inputs common in lifted vehicles navigating trail terrain or corrugated roads. The large 46mm bore provides greater fluid volume and damping surface area than standard-diameter shocks of comparable length, supporting consistent response across the full travel range. The chromed, micro-polished piston rod minimizes seal friction and extends service life even under sustained compression and rebound cycles.

On the 1987-1996 Wrangler YJ, the M9561 fills the front shock position at 5-6" of lift, where the YJ's solid axle and leaf spring front suspension generates substantial shock travel during articulation. The companion rear shock for this configuration is the Skyjacker M9558. On the 1997-2003 Ford F-150 and SuperCrew 4WD, the M9561 fills the rear shock position at 1-5" of rear lift, paired with the Skyjacker M9597 at the front for 5-6" front lift. The M9561 uses a stud upper mount (S1) and eye lower mount (ES25) with a polyurethane EB1 bushing. Sold individually - order two for a complete front or rear installation. All necessary mounting hardware is included; factory mounting bolts are reused.
