Fitment Notes

  • On 1987-1996 Jeep Wrangler YJ rear and select full-size Jeep applications (Grand Wagoneer, Cherokee/Wagoneer, J10/J20): this shock uses a 2" Slim Body diameter (Note A2) - confirm body clearance at your shock mount location before ordering
  • On 1955-1975 Jeep CJ5/CJ6/3B/M38A1 and 1974-1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer/Cherokee/J10/J20: M9558 serves as both front and rear shock at the stated lift height - confirm position before ordering
  • On 1966-1977 Ford F-250 4WD Low Boy: also used as part of the Skyjacker M9514/M9558 dual front shock kit at 2-4" front lift
  • On 1970-1976 Ford F-100/F-150 4WD: M9558 serves as the front shock at 5-6" lift in the dual front shock configuration with M9559 at the rear
  • Lift height ranges are for the stated position (front or rear as specified); always cross-reference the correct companion shock for your full suspension setup
  • Sold individually; order 2x for a complete axle pair
  • Replacement mounting hardware (washers, bushings, and nuts) is included; factory shock mounting bolts are reused
  • Upper and lower mounts are both eye-style (ES25) - confirm mount compatibility with your existing suspension hardware before ordering

Features

  • Single-tube monotube design separates hydraulic fluid and nitrogen gas via a floating piston, eliminating cavitation and delivering consistent damping under sustained off-road use and heavy loads
  • High-pressure nitrogen gas charge combined with floating piston technology delivers the fastest shock response in Skyjacker's lineup - no fade, no lag across the full operating range
  • Large 46mm bore provides superior damping capacity and greater fluid volume for consistent performance through repeated compression cycles
  • 180-degree directional mounting accommodates varied bracket orientations across the broad range of supported platforms spanning five decades of production
  • Chromed piston rod features a micro-polished shaft that reduces seal wear and extends service life under demanding off-road, towing, and daily-driving conditions
  • Custom-tuned valving calibrated to each vehicle platform and lift height range for optimal damping response matched to actual sprung weight and suspension geometry
  • Internal bump stop prevents metal-to-metal contact at full compression, protecting the shock body and surrounding suspension hardware
  • Slim Body 2" diameter construction on select Jeep applications (YJ, Grand Wagoneer, Cherokee/Wagoneer, J10/J20) for fitment in tight shock tower clearance situations
  • Polyurethane eye bushings (EB1) at both upper and lower mounts provide superior durability over OEM rubber, resisting petroleum and UV degradation
  • Limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser for the duration of vehicle ownership

Product Description

The Skyjacker M9558 is one of the broadest-fitment shocks in the entire M95 lineup, serving primarily as a rear shock across an extensive range of Ford trucks, classic Jeep CJ and YJ platforms, full-size Jeep Wagoneers and Cherokees, the Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ, Dodge Dakota, and Toyota T100. On Ford platforms, it covers the rear position across the 1970-1997 F-Series and Bronco in both 4WD and 2WD configurations, the 1983-1997 Ranger and Bronco II, and the 1966-1977 F-250 Low Boy at lift heights ranging from stock through approximately 3.5" depending on the platform. On Jeep platforms, it serves as a rear shock for 1955-1975 CJ5/CJ6, 1976-1986 CJ5/CJ7/Scrambler, 1987-1996 Wrangler YJ, and the full-size Wagoneer, Cherokee, and J10/J20 lineup - as well as the 1993-1998 Grand Cherokee ZJ. On several of the full-size Jeep and YJ applications, it uses a 2" Slim Body diameter (Note A2) to accommodate tighter shock tower clearance.

Like all M95 series shocks, the M9558 uses a single-tube monotube construction with a high-pressure nitrogen charge and floating piston that isolates the gas from the hydraulic fluid. This prevents cavitation - the aeration of shock fluid that causes fade and inconsistent damping - under sustained high-frequency compression cycles. The 46mm bore provides greater fluid volume than conventional shock designs of comparable length, supporting consistent response from the first hit to the last. Custom valving tuned to each specific vehicle application and lift height range means the damping force is calibrated to the actual sprung weight and geometry of each platform, not adapted from a general-purpose specification.

The M9558 uses eye-style mounts at both ends (ES25 upper and lower, EB1 polyurethane bushings), providing a secure, low-friction connection that outlasts OEM rubber bushings under petroleum exposure and UV degradation. A special note for buyers fitting this shock to 1987-1996 Wrangler YJ rear applications and full-size Jeep platforms: this application uses the 2" Slim Body variant - verify clearance at your shock mount before ordering. On 1970-1976 F-100/F-150 4WD trucks, this shock fills the front position in the dual-front shock configuration at 5-6" lift, paired with the M9559 at the rear. Sold individually - order two for a complete axle installation. All necessary mounting hardware is included; factory bolts are reused.
