Fitment Notes

  • Sold individually - purchase the correct quantity for your specific application (most complete axle replacements require 2 shocks)
  • All supported applications are 4WD; this shock is not designed for 2WD/RWD configurations on these platforms
  • The H7079 is dimensioned specifically for high-lift applications on the squarebody Chevrolet/GMC platform - 9 to 12 inches of lift - making it one of the longest shocks in the Hydro 7000 lineup. At stock or moderate lift heights on these trucks, use H7051 (front) or H7053 (rear) instead
  • On the Chevrolet/GMC squarebody platform, the H7079 can serve both front and rear positions at 9-12 in. of lift, as the extreme extended length is required to properly fill both mounting locations at this height range
  • On the Ford F-150 (1980-1996), F-250 (1980-1986), and Ranger (1983-1997), the H7079 serves the rear position at high-lift configurations
  • On the Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty (1999-2016), the H7079 serves the rear position; the "Explore Options" sets pair H7041 (front) + H7079 (rear) for 1999-2004 4WD applications
  • Upper and lower Eyelet/Sleeve mounts are compatible with the high-lift shock mounting geometry across all supported platforms
  • Factory mounting hardware is reused; all necessary washers, bushings, and nuts are included

Features

  • True velocity-sensitive hydraulic valving adapts damping resistance to actual suspension speed in real time - essential at the extreme suspension travel depths found at 9-12 in. of lift on squarebody trucks, where suspension speeds can be significantly higher than at moderate lift heights
  • Orifice disk design ensures optimal hydraulic fluid flow, providing consistent and responsive damping through the full 14.03 in. of travel - one of the longest strokes in the Hydro 7000 series
  • Leak-proof hydraulic seal construction maintains consistent performance across the high-cycle suspension articulation associated with extreme-lift off-road builds
  • Bonded iron piston provides superior strength and fatigue resistance for the sustained high-amplitude suspension inputs of lifted squarebody trucks on trail and off-road terrain
  • Chrome-plated piston rod resists corrosion and surface damage, protecting the hydraulic seal and maintaining consistent damping performance at all suspension travel depths
  • Eyelet/Sleeve upper and lower mount provides a compatible mounting solution across the wide range of vehicle platforms served at extreme lift heights
  • Distinctive red protective boot shields the shock shaft from trail debris and environmental exposure - the Hydro 7000 series signature
  • Backed by Skyjacker's Limited Lifetime Warranty against defects in materials and workmanship

Product Description

The Skyjacker H7079 Hydro 7000 is among the longest shocks in the Hydro 7000 lineup, with 34.22 inches extended and 20.19 inches compressed for 14.03 inches of travel - dimensions designed for extreme-lift applications. On the 1973-1991 Chevrolet and GMC squarebody 4WD platform (K10/K20/K30, K5 Blazer, Suburban, Jimmy, and their V-series successors through 1991), the H7079 is the appropriate shock for 9 to 12 inches of suspension lift, serving both front and rear axle positions at this height range. At these extreme lifts, the additional shock travel is not optional - standard-length shocks at 9-12 in. of lift would overextend on droop and potentially bottom out under compression, compromising both ride quality and suspension component longevity.

Beyond the squarebody GM platform, the H7079 serves as a rear shock for the Ford F-150 (1980-1996), F-250 (1980-1986), and Ranger (1983-1997) at high-lift rear configurations, and as a rear shock for the Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty (1999-2016, 4WD) - where it pairs with H7041 at the front for the 1999-2004 generation. The shared Eyelet/Sleeve upper and lower mounting geometry across all of these platforms is what allows the same part number to serve such a diverse range of vehicles in high-lift rear applications.

The Hydro 7000 hydraulic design - non-gas-charged, with orifice disk and velocity-sensitive valving - adjusts damping in real time to actual suspension speed, providing the controlled, progressive response needed to manage the extreme wheel travel range at 9-12 in. of lift without harshness over small terrain inputs. All installation hardware is included; factory mounting bolts are reused. Sold individually. Backed by Skyjacker's Limited Lifetime Warranty for the original retail purchaser.
