Vehicle Fitment

The Skyjacker 7220 is a universal dual inline steering stabilizer kit for straight-axle 4WD trucks and SUVs across multiple manufacturers. Confirmed fitment includes:

  • Chevrolet/GMC 1967-1991: K5 Blazer (4WD); Suburban 2WD/4WD; Jimmy (4WD); C/K Pickup K10/K15/K20/K25/K30 (4WD) - 1967-1987 pickups, 1967-1991 Suburban/Blazer/Jimmy
  • Ford 1959-1979: F-250 and F-350 (4WD) - except models with slave cylinder power steering
  • Dodge 1960-1993: W-Series 1/2-ton, 3/4-ton, and 1-ton pickups (4WD) and Ramcharger (1969-1993)
  • Plymouth 1974-1981: Trailduster (4WD)

Confirm front axle type and steering linkage configuration before ordering. Vehicles with slave cylinder power steering (Ford) are excluded.

Fitment Notes

  • Straight solid-axle 4WD vehicles only - the 7220's bracket design and inline dual configuration is engineered for the conventional drag link and tie rod steering geometry of straight-axle solid-front-axle trucks from these platforms; it is not compatible with independent front suspension vehicles
  • Ford exclusion: slave cylinder power steering - Ford F-250/F-350 models equipped with slave cylinder (also known as orbital) power steering have a different steering linkage geometry that is not compatible with the 7220's bracket design; verify your Ford's steering system type before ordering
  • Dual inline configuration - the 7220 mounts two Hydro 7000 stabilizer cylinders inline along the steering linkage, with one end using a stem mount and the other an eye mount; the inline arrangement orients both stabilizers parallel to the tie rod/drag link rather than stacking them perpendicularly; this is the OEM-style dual setup on many of these platforms, providing the damping of two cylinders in a package that does not significantly alter the clearance geometry of the front end
  • Complete kit with brackets - unlike the 7009 OEM replacement (which uses factory brackets), the 7220 includes its own mounting brackets and all hardware required for installation; the factory shock mounting bolts and the included bracket hardware complete the installation
  • Replacement cylinders available separately - if only the cylinders require replacement after the brackets are established, Skyjacker part 7000 is the replacement cylinder for this kit
  • WARNING: Installation note from user experience - some reviewers have noted the installation instructions/photos can result in the kit being mounted upside down for certain applications, which may cause interference with leaf springs; verify mounting orientation before final tightening, and if interference exists, flip the bracket assembly over
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty - Skyjacker covers steering stabilizers with a limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser for the duration of vehicle ownership; voided by competition or racing use; one-year coverage only for commercial vehicles

Features

  • Dual inline Hydro 7000 cylinders - the 7220 adds a second Hydro 7000 series twin-tube hydraulic cylinder to the steering system, working in tandem with the first; a dual inline configuration provides approximately twice the hydraulic damping force of a single stabilizer against steering shimmy and linkage oscillation; on heavily modified classic 4WD trucks with large tires (33"-37" and above), lift kits of 4" or more, and worn or compliant steering components, a single stabilizer may not provide sufficient damping to prevent resonant shimmy from developing; the second cylinder in the 7220 raises the shimmy onset threshold significantly and provides a margin of control authority that a single unit cannot match in high-demand applications
  • Inline mounting geometry - both cylinders are mounted inline (end-to-end along the same axis as the tie rod/drag link), rather than stacked side-by-side; Skyjacker's inline design preserves the steering geometry of the front end more cleanly than stacked designs, which can introduce bind or altered caster effects if not precisely designed for the specific application; the inline arrangement also keeps the assembly compact in the vertical dimension, important for maintaining clearance above the tie rod on vehicles with limited suspension travel or leaf spring proximity
  • White cylinders with red polyurethane boots - both stabilizer cylinders in the 7220 kit use Skyjacker's standard Hydro 7000 white cylinder body with red polyurethane dust boots protecting the piston shafts; polyurethane resists UV degradation, oil contamination, and the trail debris abrasion that quickly destroys rubber boots; the boots maintain the shaft seal integrity that determines the service life of each cylinder
  • Protects steering linkage under extreme conditions - in rocky terrain, washboard roads, and heavily rutted surfaces, the continuous impulsive loads that the front axle transmits through the steering linkage can work-harden and fatigue tie rod ends, drag link joints, and steering gearbox sector shaft seals over time; a dual steering stabilizer absorbs a portion of these impulse loads before they reach the joints, reducing the cumulative stress on every upstream steering component and extending service life of the steering system as a whole
  • Maintains straight-line tracking in rough terrain - on grooved pavement, washboard surfaces, or rocky trail sections, the forces acting on the front wheels constantly attempt to deflect the steering away from the driver's intended path; a dual stabilizer provides the damping force needed to keep the steering tracking straight under these conditions without requiring the driver to constantly fight the wheel, making extended off-road driving meaningfully less fatiguing
  • Includes all necessary brackets and hardware - the 7220 is sold as a complete kit; all mounting brackets, U-bolts, clamps, and hardware required for installation are included

Product Description

The Skyjacker 7220 is the Hydro 7000 Series Dual Inline Steering Stabilizer Kit for classic straight-axle 4WD trucks and SUVs from Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, Dodge, and Plymouth - covering the 1967-1991 GM K-Series/Blazer/Suburban/Jimmy, 1959-1979 Ford F-250/F-350 (except slave cylinder power steering), 1960-1993 Dodge W-Series pickups and Ramcharger, and 1974-1981 Plymouth Trailduster. It mounts two Hydro 7000 twin-tube hydraulic cylinders inline along the steering linkage, providing approximately twice the damping force of a single stabilizer against shimmy, highway harshness, and steering instability from large tires and lift kits.

The inline configuration - as opposed to stacked - orients both cylinders parallel to the tie rod axis, keeping the assembly compact and preserving front-end clearance geometry. Skyjacker's official page confirms the inline mounting arrangement. Each cylinder uses Skyjacker's white Hydro 7000 body with a red polyurethane dust boot. The kit is sold complete with mounting brackets and all hardware; Skyjacker part 7000 is the replacement cylinder if only the cylinders need to be replaced after installation.

Note: Ford F-250/F-350 models with slave cylinder power steering are excluded. Install orientation should be verified against the application before final tightening - some installations may require the bracket to be flipped to avoid leaf spring interference. Limited Lifetime Warranty to the original purchaser.
