Vehicle Fitment

  • 1999-2000 Honda Civic (EK chassis) - all body styles (2-door coupe, 3-door hatchback, 4-door sedan), with B-Series engine swap

Fitment Notes

  • B-Series engine required - this harness is designed for B-Series Honda engine swaps (B16A, B16B, B17A, B18A, B18B, B18C and related variants) in the 1999-2000 EK Civic; it is not a direct replacement for the factory D-Series harness in a non-swapped car, though it is technically B/D-Series compatible in construction
  • OBD1 ECU only (92-95 style connectors) - the RY-B1-EK-2B uses OBD1 ECU plugs (A, B, and D connectors) compatible with 92-95 Honda/Acura OBD1 ECUs and aftermarket units such as Hondata S300, Neptune, Crome, and similar OBD1 ECU platforms; USDM OBD2 stock ECUs are NOT directly supported and require an OBD2-to-OBD1 conversion adapter; non-US OBD2 ECUs and most aftermarket ECUs with OBD2 connectors are compatible (exception: H22 and stock GSR computers)
  • OBD1 engine components - the RY-B1-EK-2B uses OBD1-style distributor, injector, and alternator connectors on the engine side; if your B-Series engine uses OBD2 distributors, injectors, or alternator, you will need the OBD2 engine variant of this harness: RY-B2-EK-2B; verify your engine's OBD generation before ordering
  • 99-00 Civic chassis variant - the EK Civic changed its interior connector layout between the 96-98 (2A) and 99-00 (2B) production runs; the RY-B1-EK-2B is specifically for the 99-00 chassis; for 96-98 Civics, use RY-B1-EK-2A; purchasing the wrong sub-variant will result in a chassis adapter that does not plug into your factory dash-side harness
  • Injector adapters, alternator adapters, charge harness, VTEC solenoid bolts, and ground kits are sold separately - the base kit includes the engine harness and chassis adapter but not all supplemental adapters required for every B-Series variant; identify your engine's injector and alternator plug type and purchase the appropriate Rywire adapters before installation
  • Non-refundable once installed - per Rywire policy, installed harnesses cannot be returned; verify all fitment details before installation

Features

  • Budget line - wire-tuck construction at reduced cost relative to the Mil-Spec line - the Rywire Budget line uses single black wire color and expandable loom (rather than the Mil-Spec line's color-coded Teflon-coated ETFE wire and Raychem DR-25 heat shrink loom); the core construction methodology - new connectors, pneumatic crimping, white identification labels, interference circuit protection, pin-to-pin testing - is carried over from the Mil-Spec line; for builds on a budget that do not require aerospace-grade wire insulation, the Budget line delivers the same tuck result and reliable electrical function at a lower price point
  • Wire-tuck engine harness design - unlike a factory OEM harness that routes wiring in factory locations (often visible along the firewall, shock towers, and valve cover area), a Rywire tuck harness is designed to route all wiring through the firewall and behind the engine bay panels, dramatically reducing visible wiring in the engine bay; this is the primary aesthetic goal of the tuck harness: a clean, minimalist engine bay that shows the engine and its components rather than a tangle of wire loom; for competition and show cars, the tuck look is the standard for engine bay presentation
  • Modular two-piece design with reusable engine harness - Rywire engineers the tuck harness as two separable components: the B-series base engine harness (covering all engine sensors, injectors, distributor, and ECU connections) and the chassis-specific adapter sub-harness (which connects the engine harness to the 99-00 Civic's factory interior/dash side harness connector points); if the engine is later moved to a different chassis (e.g., from the EK Civic to a DC2 Integra), the engine side harness can be retained and only a new chassis adapter needs to be purchased; this saves the full cost of a new harness on subsequent chassis swaps
  • All-new connectors, pneumatically crimped - every connector in the harness is new (not reused from a donor harness); connectors are crimped using pneumatic tooling that reproduces OEM-specification crimp geometry and force consistently across every terminal; poor crimps are the most common cause of intermittent electrical faults in swap harnesses, and pneumatic crimping eliminates the variability of hand-crimped or improperly tooled connections
  • White identification labels on every connector - each connector is tagged with a white label identifying its function (e.g., "MAP sensor," "VTEC solenoid," "injector 1," etc.); this allows installers who are not experienced with Honda B-series wiring to identify every connector before and during installation without referring to a wiring diagram for every connection
  • Heavy interference circuits protected and grounded - circuits that carry high-current or are susceptible to electromagnetic interference (ignition circuits, oxygen sensor circuits, and similar) are individually shielded or routed with appropriate grounding to prevent interference from corrupting sensor signals; this is critical for ECU stability in high-output and turbocharged applications where ignition noise is elevated
  • 100% pin-to-pin quality tested and resistance checked - every completed harness is tested for continuity at every terminal before it leaves the facility; resistance is also checked across the full harness to identify any voltage drop anomalies before the harness is packaged; this factory testing eliminates the subset of harnesses that have assembly defects before they reach the installer

Product Description

The Rywire RY-B1-EK-2B is the B-Series OBD1 Budget Tucked Engine Harness for the 1999-2000 Honda Civic (EK chassis) - a purpose-built wire-tuck engine swap harness designed for B-Series engines running an OBD1 ECU. Rywire, founded and operated by Rya Basseri in Garden Grove, California, has produced Honda engine swap harnesses for over two decades and is the benchmark supplier for the EG/EK/DC swap harness market, with harnesses used across drag racing, circuit racing, Formula Drift, and show car builds worldwide.

The RY-B1-EK-2B serves two distinct purposes simultaneously. As a swap harness, it provides all of the correct B-Series engine sensor, injector, distributor, and ECU connections required to run a B-Series engine in a 99-00 Civic that was not originally equipped with one. As a tuck harness, it routes all engine bay wiring through the firewall and behind panels rather than along the surfaces of the engine bay, eliminating the visible wire runs, grommets, and loom that characterize factory harness routing and creating the clean, minimal engine bay aesthetic that is the standard for performance builds.

The Budget designation means the harness uses single black wire color and expandable loom rather than the Mil-Spec line's color-coded ETFE Teflon wire and Raychem DR-25 heat shrink loom - a cost reduction that does not affect the construction quality of the connectors, crimps, or testing process. All connectors are new, all crimps are pneumatically executed, all connectors are white-labeled for identification, and every completed harness is pin-to-pin continuity tested and resistance checked before shipping.

The harness ships as two pieces: the B-series base engine harness and the 99-00 Civic chassis adapter sub-harness. This modular design allows the engine harness to be reused on a different chassis in the future by purchasing only a new chassis adapter, rather than an entirely new harness. The OBD1 ECU plugs (A/B/D connectors) are compatible with 92-95 stock OBD1 ECUs, Hondata S300, Neptune, Crome, and most OBD1 and aftermarket ECU platforms; USDM OBD2 stock ECUs require an OBD2-to-OBD1 adapter. For builds using OBD2-spec B-Series engines (OBD2 distributor, injectors, alternator), the OBD2 version RY-B2-EK-2B is the correct selection.
