The Rigid Industries 36121 is the 360-Series PRO SAE Fog Light pair in Selective Yellow - the yellow-output variant of Rigid's street-legal 4-inch round LED fog light, compliant with SAE J583 and DOT standards. Like the white 36120, the 36121 is engineered for legal installation as auxiliary fog lights on public roads, with a beam geometry that meets federal motor vehicle safety standards. The selective yellow lens is the defining choice over the white variant: when the primary concern is performance in heavy fog, rain, standing water spray, or dust, selective yellow provides what Rigid calls superior visibility compared to both white and amber - not just amber, but also the white 36120.

The science behind selective yellow's advantage is specific: yellow light at approximately 572-578nm sits at a wavelength range where the human eye maintains relatively high sensitivity while also experiencing less Rayleigh scattering from suspended moisture droplets than the shorter-wavelength components of white light. This produces less backscatter glare from the fog itself, while the longer wavelength improves contrast against the suspended particles in a way that amber cannot fully replicate due to its more orange character. Selective yellow is also a more color-neutral light than amber for practical object recognition - it is why selective yellow has historically been the fog light color of choice in European automotive standards and in motorsport applications where night visibility in rain is critical.
