Vehicle Fitment

  • 2018-2026 Jeep Wrangler JL (All Trims; 2-Door and 4-Door Unlimited JLU; All Engines)

Fitment Notes

  • Stock height (0"-1.5" lift) application. The RS55064 is sized for the factory rear suspension geometry of the JL Wrangler at OEM ride height through approximately 1.5 inches of lift. For lifts exceeding 1.5 inches, a longer shock calibrated to the additional travel is required. The companion rear shock for a 2-inch lift JL Wrangler is RS55066.
  • This is the rear shock absorber. The companion front shock for the JL Wrangler at stock height is RS55063. All four corners should be replaced together for a complete shock service - order two RS55064 for the complete rear pair.
  • Wrangler JL/JLU only. The RS55064 is not the correct rear shock for the Jeep Gladiator JT - the Gladiator's longer wheelbase results in different rear suspension geometry. The Gladiator JT rear stock-height shock is RS55069.
  • Fits both the standard 2-door Wrangler JL and the 4-door Wrangler JLU (Unlimited) - the rear suspension geometry is shared between both body lengths.
  • The RS55064 is the factory-OEM supplier rear shock for JL Wrangler models equipped with the Rancho shock package from the factory (Rubicon, Moab Edition, and other off-road trims). It is also a direct performance upgrade replacement for the standard rear shocks on non-Rancho-equipped JL trims.
  • Factory shock mounting hardware is reused. All necessary washers, bushings, and nuts are included. Sold individually - order two units for a complete rear pair.

Features

  • Dynamic Rebound Spring (DRS) Technology - the RS55064 includes Rancho's Dynamic Rebound Spring system, a precisely tuned internal metal spring housed within the shock body that provides supplementary rebound control alongside the standard hydraulic damping; the DRS spring engages during the shock's extension stroke to progressively resist wheel droop as the shock approaches full extension, preventing the rapid uncontrolled wheel drop and rod overextension that can occur when the rear suspension unloads suddenly over a ledge, through a dip, or during a wheel-lift event on technical terrain; on the JL Wrangler's four-link rear coil suspension - which is designed for substantial articulation travel - the DRS technology helps maintain rear axle control through complex off-road obstacle sequences by moderating the rate at which the rear axle droop occurs, keeping the rear tires in contact with the terrain longer than an unassisted hydraulic shock alone
  • Cross Tuned technology with Progressive Engagement Valving (PEV) - Rancho's patented eccentric disc valve shim stack engages at lower piston velocities before the main valving opens, providing a graduated damping response that absorbs initial compression inputs gently before transitioning to full damping force as impact severity increases; on the JL Wrangler's rear coil suspension - which transmits more of the road surface character to the chassis than the leaf spring rear of the TJ and JK generations - the progressive engagement characteristic provides meaningful improvement in highway ride quality and trail comfort by absorbing small-amplitude inputs progressively rather than abruptly
  • Enlarged 2.25-inch twin-tube body - the larger reserve tube diameter provides greater fluid capacity than standard-bore twin-tube shocks, enabling lower operating temperatures during sustained off-road use; the JL/JLU's generous rear suspension travel means the rear shocks cycle through their full stroke more frequently and more aggressively on trail than shorter-travel platforms, making the increased thermal capacity directly relevant for extended rock crawling, trail driving, or Rubicon-level obstacle sessions
  • Nitrogen gas charge - pressurized nitrogen gas in the reserve chamber suppresses aeration and foaming of the hydraulic fluid during high-speed cycling, maintaining consistent damping force; the gas charge also provides a mild supplementary spring-rate assist to the rear coil springs, helping maintain rear ride height under varying load conditions from solo driver to full-occupancy plus cargo
  • 16mm nitro-carburized chrome piston rod - the nitro-carburized surface hardening process creates a substantially harder layer than standard chrome plating alone, resisting scoring from trail debris that enters around the upper seal; on off-road platforms like the Wrangler that regularly expose the rear shocks to mud, rock, brush, and debris kicked up by the rear tires, extended rod surface hardness is directly correlated with shock service life and oil retention
  • 35mm sintered iron piston with fluon band - the larger piston diameter improves damping precision and the fluon-banded outer surface reduces friction within the shock body, contributing to the small-bump sensitivity and on-road refinement that makes the JL a more comfortable daily driver than the previous-generation JK
  • Low-friction, self-lubricating seal - the rod seal's self-lubricating compound maintains consistent low-friction operation over its service life, contributing to small-bump response quality and preventing the premature oil weeping that results from seal drying and high-friction wear
  • Double-welded loops at stress areas - the eyelet mounting loops are double-welded at the highest-stress concentration points, providing additional structural reinforcement at the fatigue locations that experience the most cyclical loading during the JL's articulation travel
  • Polyvinyl protective boot (red) - the red boot is the visual identifier of the Rancho RS5000X series and provides practical protection for the piston rod and upper seal from direct rock chip, mud, and debris contact in the exposed rear undercarriage environment

Product Description

The Rancho RS55064 is an RS5000X series rear shock absorber for the 2018-2026 Jeep Wrangler JL and JLU at stock through 1.5-inch lift ride height. It is both the OEM supplier rear shock for Rancho-equipped JL trim levels from the factory and a direct performance upgrade replacement for the standard rear shocks on non-Rancho JL variants. The companion front shock for the JL at stock height is RS55063; the companion rear shock for a 2-inch lift is RS55066.

Like the front RS55063, the RS55064 includes Rancho's Dynamic Rebound Spring (DRS) Technology - a precisely tuned internal metal spring that supplements the hydraulic damping during the rebound stroke to control wheel droop rate and prevent rod overextension at the limit of rear travel. This is a JL-specific feature in the RS5000X lineup, reflecting the greater articulation demands of the JL's four-link rear coil suspension compared to the leaf-spring rear of the JK. The DRS system helps maintain rear tire contact with the terrain through complex obstacle sequences and prevents the unsettled chassis dynamics that result from uncontrolled rapid rear axle droop.

The Cross Tuned Progressive Engagement Valving, enlarged 2.25-inch twin-tube body, nitrogen gas charge, 16mm nitro-carburized rod, and 35mm fluon-banded piston provide the complete RS5000X performance package - calibrated specifically for the JL Wrangler's rear suspension geometry, spring rates, and load characteristics. Collapsed 17.24 in., extended 24.41 in. Sold individually; two units required for a complete rear pair. Backed by Rancho's Limited Lifetime Warranty.
