Compatible Applications
The 20-0777 is a universal EFI fuel system component. It is not vehicle-specific. It is compatible with any EFI fuel system where the fuel rail uses a female 8AN ORB (3/4"-16 UNF) port and the base static fuel pressure falls within 40-105 psi. Common applications include:
- Any Radium Engineering or aftermarket fuel rail with 8AN ORB ports
- High-base-pressure EFI systems including BMW M-series engines, high-boost turbocharged builds, and other applications with base static fuel pressure between 70-105 psi where the FPD-R (20-0776) cannot be used
- Boosted EFI builds using a 1:1 vacuum/boost-referenced rising-rate fuel pressure regulator
- Port injection fuel systems requiring pulse stabilization on the feed rail
Compatibility Notes
- FPD-XR vs FPD-R - which to choose: The 20-0777 FPD-XR (Extra Range) and the 20-0776 FPD-R (Standard Range) share the same 8AN ORB swivel design but use different internal diaphragm spring rates. The FPD-R covers base static fuel pressures of 40-70 psi. The FPD-XR covers base static fuel pressures of 40-105 psi. Base static pressure is the fuel pressure measured at idle with the vacuum reference line disconnected from the regulator. If the base static pressure exceeds 70 psi - as on the BMW E46 M3 (72.5 psi base) and similar high-base-pressure engines - the FPD-XR (20-0777) must be used; the FPD-R will not function correctly. The FPD-R is physically shorter than the FPD-XR and may be preferred in space-constrained engine bays when the base static pressure falls within the 40-70 psi range of both units.
- Vacuum/boost reference line use: When the base static pressure falls within the FPD-XR's range (40-105 psi) and the dynamic fuel pressure at maximum boost does not exceed 105 psi, the vacuum/boost reference line does not need to be connected. However, if the vacuum-referenced FPR causes fuel pressure to drop below 40 psi under high vacuum (e.g., idle/deceleration), the reference line must be connected to prevent the diaphragm from operating outside its effective range. For 1:1 rising-rate FPR systems where fuel pressure rises proportionally with boost and could exceed 105 psi total dynamic pressure, the reference line must always be connected; the static base pressure set point determines which damper to use, not the peak dynamic pressure.
- Not for use on the low-pressure side of mechanical fuel pumps or direct injection low-pressure circuits. This damper is designed for EFI port injection high-pressure fuel rail applications only. Installing a diaphragm-style pulse damper on a low-pressure supply circuit (such as the LPFP side of a GDI/DI system) is not a correct application for this product.
- The 20-0777 FPD-XR body has an 8AN ORB male fitting as its primary mount (seals with FKM/Viton O-ring into the fuel rail's female 8AN ORB port) and also features a secondary 3/8" NPT threaded provision on the body as an alternate fitting option. Only one fitting is used per installation.
- A 6AN ORB adapter for use in 6AN ORB fuel rail ports is available separately from Radium Engineering for applications where the rail does not have 8AN ORB ports.
Features
- V2 360° swivel after installation - unlike first-generation Radium 8AN ORB pulse dampers (20-0178/20-0179), the V2 design (20-0776/20-0777) allows the damper body to continue rotating freely even after the 8AN ORB male fitting is fully torqued into the fuel rail port; this means the vacuum reference port can be aimed toward the nearest vacuum/boost source at any orientation without any compromise to the sealing torque; on earlier fixed designs, the vacuum port direction was set when the fitting was tightened, which could result in awkward hose routing or insufficient torque if the port needed to face a specific direction
- Internal diaphragm absorbs fuel pressure oscillations - each time a fuel injector opens and closes, it creates a brief pressure spike and drop in the fuel rail; in multi-injector batch-fire systems and at high injector duty cycles, these pulses can interfere with each other, resulting in rail pressure instability; the damper's internal diaphragm deflects against each pressure pulse, absorbing the energy of the spike before it can propagate through the rail; the result is stable, consistent rail pressure across the entire RPM and load range - a particularly important function when using high-flow injectors that create larger pressure events per cycle
- Vacuum/boost reference port - the reference port on the damper body accepts a 4mm vacuum hose and connects to intake manifold vacuum or boost pressure; this port transmits the manifold pressure signal to the inside of the diaphragm chamber, biasing the diaphragm spring rate to match the current fuel pressure; on a 1:1 rising-rate FPR system where fuel pressure increases psi-for-psi with boost, the diaphragm must also handle proportionally higher rail pressures at full boost - without the reference port connected, the diaphragm would be working against the full fuel pressure rather than the differential pressure, causing it to behave rigidly and lose its pulse-absorbing function at high pressure
- Extra-range (XR) diaphragm - the FPD-XR's diaphragm is calibrated for base static fuel pressures up to 105 psi, compared to the FPD-R's 70 psi ceiling; this makes the 20-0777 the correct choice for high-base-pressure applications including BMW M-series, Porsche, and other European performance platforms with factory base pressures in the 70-90 psi range, as well as high-pressure E85 race builds where base pressure is intentionally elevated
- Direct-mount onto fuel rail - the 8AN ORB male thread screws directly into any spare 8AN ORB port on the fuel rail, eliminating the need for external brackets, fittings, or hose runs; for best results, the damper should be mounted as close to the injectors as possible - directly on the rail rather than in the feed line - to intercept pulses before they can reflect and compound within the rail volume
- Can be mounted at any angle including inverted - the diaphragm design is orientation-independent; gravity does not affect the diaphragm's function, allowing the damper to be installed in any orientation dictated by the engine bay packaging
- All-fuel compatible - the FKM O-ring seal, internal diaphragm material, and housing are compatible with gasoline, E85, ethanol, methanol, and all common fuel types; no fuel-specific variant is required
- Black anodized and laser engraved aluminum top - the black top color distinguishes the FPD-XR (20-0777) from the FPD-R (20-0776, green top) for easy visual identification; the laser engraving identifies the part and range designation

Product Description
The Radium Engineering 20-0777 is the FPD-XR (Fuel Pulse Damper - Extra Range), the higher-pressure variant in Radium's V2 direct-mount fuel pulse damper lineup. Fuel injectors create pressure pulses in the fuel rail each time they open and close; at high injector duty cycles or with large-displacement high-flow injectors, these pulses accumulate and interfere with each other, producing measurable rail pressure instability that manifests as idle surge, erratic lean AFR spikes during transitions, and a general inability to tune out stumbling with fueling corrections alone. The FPD-XR's internal diaphragm absorbs each pressure pulse before it can propagate through the rail, stabilizing pressure throughout the RPM range and enabling consistent, predictable injector behavior.
The Extra Range designation distinguishes the 20-0777 from the standard-range FPD-R (20-0776): the XR's diaphragm is calibrated for base static fuel pressures up to 105 psi, covering high-base-pressure EFI systems including BMW M-series engines, high-pressure E85 race builds, and other applications where base static pressure exceeds the FPD-R's 70 psi ceiling. The vacuum/boost reference port on the damper body is key to performance on boosted applications using a 1:1 rising-rate FPR: connecting this port to manifold pressure signals the diaphragm chamber to track the rising fuel pressure under boost, keeping the diaphragm operating against the differential pressure rather than the absolute rail pressure - essential for proper pulse absorption at elevated boost levels.
The V2 design (shared with the FPD-R 20-0776) adds 360° post-installation swivel to the 8AN ORB mount, allowing the vacuum reference port to be aimed in any direction after the fitting is fully torqued into the fuel rail port - a significant improvement over the earlier fixed-orientation 20-0178/20-0179 generation. The 8AN ORB male fitting seals with a FKM (Viton) O-ring and installs directly into any spare 8AN ORB port on the fuel rail. A 4mm rubber vacuum reference hose and Y-fitting are included for connecting the reference port to the intake manifold. All materials are compatible with gasoline, E85, ethanol, and methanol.
