Vehicle Fitment

  • 1968-1972 Chevrolet Chevelle, Malibu, El Camino (GM A-Body) - Small Block
  • 1968-1972 Pontiac GTO, LeMans, Tempest (GM A-Body) - Small Block
  • 1968-1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass, 442 (GM A-Body) - Small Block
  • 1968-1972 Buick Skylark, GS (GM A-Body) - Small Block

Fitment Notes

  • Small block engine applications - 550 lbs/in is a stiffer spring rate suited for heavier front axle weight builds (approximately 2,001-2,100 lbs front axle weight); for lighter builds, consider the 400 lbs/in kit (GD401-10400B)
  • Bolt-in compatible with both factory OE stamped steel control arms and QA1 tubular control arms - no control arm replacement required
  • Some front applications may require the lower A-arm to be dropped for installation; shock body diameter may require enlarging the lower control arm shock opening
  • Includes stud upper / T-bar lower mount configuration
  • Provides 0 to -2 inches of front ride height adjustability; for additional lowering beyond 2 inches, pair with drop spindles
  • Register shocks at QA1 before installation to activate Limited Lifetime Warranty

Features

  • Double adjustable Pro Coil shock - 18 independent compression positions x 18 independent rebound positions for 324 total valving combinations
  • Provides 0 to -2 inches of front ride height adjustability via threaded shock body - adjust with a simple turn of the spring seat nut
  • Includes a 10-inch tapered high travel chrome silicon spring at 550 lbs/in - ideal for heavier small block A-Body builds needing stiffer front spring rates
  • Fewer coils and smaller wire diameter vs. conventional springs for increased travel and reduced unsprung weight
  • Bolt-in with both factory OE and QA1 tubular control arms for maximum build flexibility
  • Stud upper / T-bar lower mount configuration for stock-style front suspension integration
  • 100% dyno-tested and serialized for verified, consistent performance
  • Serviceable and rebuildable by QA1 Authorized Service Centers
  • Made in the USA at QA1's Lakeville, Minnesota facility

Product Description

The QA1 GD401-10550B is a double adjustable front Pro Coil coilover system engineered as a bolt-in upgrade for 1968-1972 GM A-Body muscle cars - including the Chevelle, El Camino, GTO, Cutlass, and Skylark - powered by small block engines. This kit is the stiffer spring rate option in the A-Body Pro Coil lineup, pairing the double adjustable GD401 shock with a 550 lbs/in 10-inch tapered high travel spring to suit heavier front axle weight builds where the 400 lbs/in rate would be too soft. The double adjustable shocks deliver 324 valving combinations via independent 18-position compression and rebound knobs, accessible by turning the steering wheel to full lock.

The 10-inch tapered chrome silicon springs seat against a flat upper end (Style SF) to work with QA1's Pro Coil shock body geometry. This kit installs with both factory OE stamped steel control arms and QA1 tubular control arms - no mandatory control arm replacement needed. Ride height is adjustable from 0 to -2 inches via the threaded shock body spring seat. Each shock is 100% dyno-tested, serialized, and serviceable by QA1 Authorized Service Centers. Register at QA1 before installation to activate the Limited Lifetime Warranty.
