  • 1980-1985 Mazda GLC
  • All years Mazda MPV
  • All years Ford Festiva
  • 1988 Ford Tracer
  • All years Kia Sportage (1st Generation - Mazda-derived steering column)

Fitment Notes

  • For Mazda Miata NA (1989-1997): direct bolt-in fitment confirmed. A steering wheel spacer may be needed on 1988 and later Mazda 323 and 626 models.
  • For Mazda Miata NB (1998 and later): this hub will physically fit the steering column, but may require a horn delete due to changed clock spring wiring. Verify compatibility and wiring before ordering for 1998+ NB Miata.
  • This hub is designed for aftermarket steering wheel installation only - the factory OEM steering wheel cannot be reinstalled using this hub.
  • For vehicles equipped with an SRS airbag system, the airbag must be properly disabled and deactivated before installation. This hub does not include airbag resistor wiring or SRS bypass functionality.
  • Compatible with MOMO, Sparco, OMP, NRG, Simoni Racing, Sabelt, and any other aftermarket steering wheel using a 6 x 70mm PCD bolt pattern. Not directly compatible with Nardi or Personal wheels (74mm PCD) without a separate PCD adapter.

Features

  • MOMO-patented collapsible hub design with an engineered crush zone - deforms under high-impact force in a collision to significantly improve driver safety over rigid hub alternatives.
  • Splined aluminum base precisely matches the OEM steering column shaft of covered Mazda, Ford, and Kia applications for a secure, wobble-free fit.
  • Pre-drilled 6-bolt mounting face accepts all aftermarket steering wheels using the standard MOMO 6 x 70mm PCD bolt pattern.
  • Matte black powdercoated finish provides corrosion resistance and a clean professional appearance inside the cockpit.
  • Collapsible steel center section creates an engineered deformation zone - designed to absorb impact energy during a frontal collision much like an automotive crumple zone.
  • Plastic bellows cover conceals the collapsible center section for a finished, factory-quality appearance after installation.
  • Kit includes hub, hub cover, 6 countersunk mounting screws, allen key, grounding plate, and grounding wire.
  • Exceeds German TUV safety standards - among the strictest aftermarket safety certifications in the automotive industry.
  • Designed and manufactured in Italy by MOMO - the originator of the collapsible steering wheel hub concept.

Product Description

The MOMO 5702 is a vehicle-specific collapsible steering wheel hub adapter engineered for a wide range of Mazda, Ford, and Kia platforms sharing a common steering column specification. Primary applications include the 1989-1997 Mazda Miata NA, 1980-1985 Mazda RX-7 (SA/FB), 1988-1994 Mazda 323/Protege, 1980-1991 Mazda 626, pre-1991 Mazda 929, all Mazda B2000, 1980-1985 GLC, all Mazda MPV, all Ford Festiva, 1988 Ford Tracer, and all Kia Sportage (1st Generation). It serves as the mechanical interface between the factory steering column and any aftermarket steering wheel using the standard MOMO 6 x 70mm PCD 6-bolt pattern - including wheels from MOMO, Sparco, OMP, NRG, Simoni Racing, and Sabelt. The Mazda Miata NA is by far the most popular application for this hub, making it a staple in the Miata motorsport and street performance community.

All MOMO hub adapters are built around a patented collapsible center section design - a safety engineering innovation that MOMO invented and pioneered. Because aftermarket steering wheels use rigid outer rims that do not deform in a collision the way factory steering wheels are designed to, MOMO engineered a collapsible steel tower structure into the hub body that creates a controlled crush zone. In a frontal impact, this deformation zone absorbs kinetic energy before it is transferred to the driver - a critical safety feature that MOMO has designed to exceed the stringent German TUV safety homologation standard. The 5702 also includes a grounding plate and grounding wire in the kit, providing an electrical ground connection for horn functionality depending on the vehicle's wiring configuration.

For 1998 and later Mazda Miata NB owners, it is important to note that while this hub physically fits the NB steering column spline, the 1998+ NB introduced changes to the clock spring and horn circuit that may require a horn delete or wiring modification. For clean NA (1989-1997) applications, the 5702 is a direct bolt-on installation with no modifications required. A compatible MOMO horn button (sold separately) can be used for horn retention after installation where applicable. The 5702 remains the benchmark hub for Miata builds across track, autocross, time attack, and daily street use.
