Fitment Notes

  • ASC (Automatic Stability Control) delete is required for proper fitment on 1996-1999 328i / 328is and 1995-1999 M3 models. These vehicles have an ASC throttle body that occupies the intake boot routing path - the ASC system must be deleted or removed before the boot will install correctly without trimming.
  • On 1992-1995 325i / 325is models (M50 engine), the boot installs without ASC deletion as these earlier models do not use the ASC throttle body.
  • This is a single silicone intake boot (air intake elbow) - not a full radiator hose kit. Clamps are not included.
  • Available in black (MMHOSE-E36-92IBBK), blue (MMHOSE-E36-92IBBL), and red (MMHOSE-E36-92IBRD).
  • Maximum operating temperature: 330°F (165°C).
  • A separate variant is available for E36 models running a 3.5-inch HFM (hot film mass airflow sensor) without ASC - see Mishimoto MMHOSE-E36-92IB35BK.

Features

  • Direct OEM-fit silicone replacement for the BMW E36 air intake boot (intake elbow) - the flexible rubber section connecting the airbox to the throttle body that is a known failure point on aging E36 platforms.
  • Dual-layer construction combines high-grade silicone with heat-resistant embedded fibers, providing significantly superior pressure tolerance, heat resistance, and long-term durability compared to the original OEM rubber boot.
  • Rated to 330°F (165°C) - permanently resistant to cracking, hardening, swelling, and collapse from heat cycling and oil vapor contamination that degrades OEM rubber intake boots over time.
  • Prevents unmetered air entry caused by cracked or split OEM intake boots - a common cause of rough idle, stumbling, lean codes, and poor throttle response on E36 platforms with aging rubber components.
  • Retains OEM routing and connection geometry - fits all factory intake and airbox components without modification (except ASC delete where required).
  • Available in black, blue, and red to complement stock and modified E36 engine bays.
  • Installation difficulty rated Easy. Backed by the Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty.

Product Description

The Mishimoto MMHOSE-E36-92IBBK is a direct OEM-fit silicone replacement for the air intake boot on the 1992-1999 BMW E36 platform, including the 325i, 325is, 323i, 323is, 328i, 328is, M3, and Z3 variants running the M50, M52, S50, and S52 inline-six engines. The intake boot - the flexible rubber elbow connecting the airbox assembly to the throttle body - is one of the most common failure points on aging E36 chassis. Decades of heat cycling, oil vapor exposure from the crankcase breather, and general rubber degradation cause the OEM boot to crack, split, or harden and pull away from its connection points. Even small cracks in the boot allow unmetered air to enter the intake downstream of the mass airflow sensor, resulting in incorrect fueling calculations, lean mixture codes, rough idle, stumbling at throttle tip-in, and reduced performance. Replacing the boot with a silicone unit eliminates this failure mode permanently.

Mishimoto's silicone intake boot is constructed from a dual-layer combination of high-grade silicone and heat-resistant embedded fibers, rated to 330°F. Unlike OEM rubber that continues to degrade with age and heat, silicone maintains its shape and sealing integrity indefinitely under normal operating conditions. The boot is formed to the OEM routing geometry, so it drops into place in the factory intake path without modification on 1992-1995 325i/325is models. Owners of 1996-1999 328i/328is and 1995-1999 M3 models must note an important installation requirement: these vehicles use an ASC (Automatic Stability Control) throttle body that is positioned directly in the intake boot path. Mishimoto's silicone boot cannot route around this component, so the ASC system must be deleted before installation. This is a well-documented modification in the E36 community and does not affect the mechanical operation of the engine or transmission.

This boot also fits the BMW Z3 Roadster and Z3 Coupe variants - including the high-performance M Roadster and M Coupe - that share the E36 platform's inline-six engine and intake architecture. The kit is sold as a single intake boot and does not include hose clamps; existing OEM clamps should be reused or replaced with aftermarket equivalents at the time of installation. For owners also upgrading to a larger 3.5-inch hot-film mass airflow sensor (HFM) without ASC, a separate Mishimoto variant is available (MMHOSE-E36-92IB35BK). Available in black, blue, and red. Covered by the Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty.
