Fitment Notes

• This is the black powder-coated intercooler + wrinkle red charge pipe color combination. Other available configurations include black/black (MMTMIC-WRX-15BBK), black/polished, silver/polished, silver/black, silver/red, and additional combinations across the Race TMIC kit lineup.
• This kit is the Race top-mount intercooler, rated for 300-450 whp with a hard limit of approximately 500 whp / 35 PSI boost. Applications exceeding this threshold require a front-mount intercooler conversion. For stock-to-stage-2 builds (up to approximately 350 whp), the Mishimoto Street Performance TMIC (MMTMIC-WRX-15X series) is also available.
• Engine cover compatibility: The Mishimoto Race TMIC core is physically larger than the OEM unit and will NOT fit under the stock engine cover. The stock engine cover must be removed.
• Tuning is not required for installation. However, dyno-proven performance figures (+15 whp / +8 wtq, 35°F charge temp drop) were recorded on a stage 2 EcuTek-tuned test vehicle equipped with a Mishimoto WRX downpipe. Results on stock or differently tuned vehicles will vary.

The Mishimoto MMTMIC-WRX-15RBK is the Race top-mount intercooler kit for the 2015-2021 Subaru WRX, featuring a black powder-coated intercooler core and wrinkle red charge pipe. The 2015+ VA-chassis WRX's FA20DIT direct-injection turbocharged flat-four is a highly capable and tuneable engine, but the stock top-mount intercooler is a well-documented limitation on performance potential - prone to heat soak during back-to-back wide-open-throttle pulls, track sessions, and sustained aggressive street driving. When the intercooler saturates with heat, charge air temperatures rise, knock retard occurs, and tuned power targets cannot be maintained. Addressing the intercooler is one of the highest-leverage modifications available for the FA20DIT platform.

Mishimoto's Race TMIC replaces the stock unit with a 4-inch thick bar-and-plate core with 625 cubic inches of total volume - one of the largest top-mount intercooler cores available for the VA WRX in the OEM position. The core uses a dense offset fin pitch to maximize heat transfer surface area and minimizes pressure drop across the core. Cast aluminum end tanks are TIG-welded to the core, eliminating the stock plastic end tanks that are a failure point at elevated boost on the FA20DIT. The kit includes Mishimoto's one-piece mandrel-bent aluminum charge pipe, which replaces the factory multi-piece routing and eliminates the multiple coupler junction points that are potential boost leak sources. An application-specific air diverter is included to direct airflow into the intercooler core. Testing on a stage 2 EcuTek-tuned test vehicle with a Mishimoto downpipe demonstrated a 35°F charge temperature drop and +15 whp / +8 wtq bolt-on gains.

The kit is rated to support the FA20DIT from stock output up to a hard limit of approximately 500 whp / 35 PSI. Builds exceeding this threshold require a front-mount intercooler conversion. The intercooler's larger core does not clear the stock engine cover - the cover must be removed for installation.
