Vehicle Fitment

  • 1979-2004 Ford Mustang - all trims and engines equipped with a mechanical (cable-actuated) clutch linkage and a 1-1/16 in. (10-spline) manual transmission input shaft
  • Covers Fox-body (1979-1993), SN95 (1994-1998), and New Edge (1999-2004) Mustang generations with manual transmissions including T5, T45, and T3650

Fitment Notes

  • WARNING: Cable/mechanical linkage ONLY - this is a mechanical throwout bearing designed for cable-actuated clutch fork systems; it is NOT compatible with hydraulic clutch systems (see McLeod's hydraulic throwout bearing lineup for hydraulic applications)
  • Fits 1-1/16 in. (10-spline) manual transmission input shaft - verify your transmission's input shaft diameter and spline count before ordering; this bearing is not compatible with other input shaft sizes
  • Designed for use with a clutch fork and cable linkage - not for use with hydraulic concentric slave cylinders or hydraulic clutch conversion setups
  • McLeod strongly recommends replacing the throwout bearing AND pilot bearing/bushing at every clutch installation - never reuse either component during a clutch service
  • Sold individually - one (1) throwout bearing per order
  • No warranty - McLeod Racing explicitly states that throwout bearings carry no warranty due to their consumable nature and susceptibility to installation and use variables

Features

  • Angular contact, constant-running bearing design - the bearing runs continuously at all times (not just during disengagement), eliminating the on/off contact cycle that causes premature failure in intermittent-contact designs and delivering longer service life under sustained performance driving
  • Heavy-duty construction engineered for both daily street driving and drag strip/road course use - built to withstand the increased wear and heat cycling placed on clutch components in performance applications
  • Precision machined for consistent dimensional accuracy - ensures correct fork contact, proper pressure plate engagement geometry, and smooth, consistent clutch release feel
  • High-quality materials resist corrosion and stress - maintains structural integrity under the side-loads and vibration common in high-performance clutch applications
  • Direct-fit replacement for the OEM throwout bearing - installs into the factory clutch fork location on cable-equipped 1979-2004 Mustangs with no modification required

Product Description

The McLeod Racing 16100 is a mechanical throwout (release) bearing for the 1979-2004 Ford Mustang equipped with a cable-actuated clutch linkage and a 1-1/16 in. (10-spline) manual transmission input shaft. It covers all three generations of cable-clutch Mustang - the Fox-body (1979-1993), SN95 (1994-1998), and New Edge (1999-2004) - across all trim levels and engine variants that use a clutch fork and cable linkage, including Mustangs equipped with the T5, T45, and T3650 manual transmissions. This is a standard fixed-height bearing, not the adjustable-height 16515 variant; it installs directly into the factory clutch fork position with no modification.

The 16100 uses an angular contact, constant-running bearing design - meaning the bearing is always spinning, not just during clutch disengagement. This approach eliminates the repetitive on/off contact cycle of non-constant-contact designs, which is a primary source of premature bearing failure under performance use. The result is longer service life and more consistent release feel, whether the vehicle sees daily street driving, occasional track days, or sustained drag strip competition. Dimensions are 1.430 in. ID x 2.640 in. OD x 1.340 in. tall, matching the factory clutch fork geometry of the cable-equipped Fox, SN95, and New Edge Mustang.

WARNING: This bearing is for cable/mechanical clutch linkage only - it is not compatible with hydraulic clutch systems. Verify that your Mustang uses a cable-actuated clutch fork before ordering. McLeod recommends replacing both the throwout bearing and the pilot bearing/bushing at every clutch service - never reuse either component during installation. No warranty is provided on throwout bearings. Sold individually.
