Vehicle Fitment

  • 2020-2025 Ford Explorer ST - 3.0L V6 EcoBoost - AWD
  • 2020-2025 Ford Explorer Platinum - 3.0L V6 EcoBoost - AWD
  • 2020-2025 Ford Explorer King Ranch - 3.0L V6 EcoBoost - AWD
  • 2020-2025 Lincoln Aviator - All Trims (incl. Grand Touring PHEV) - 3.0L V6 EcoBoost - AWD

Fitment Notes

  • Fits the 3.0L V6 EcoBoost engine only - this engine is exclusive to the Explorer ST, Platinum, and King Ranch trims and to all Lincoln Aviator models. Does NOT fit Explorer Base, XLT, Limited, or any Explorer equipped with the 2.3L EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine.
  • This is an axle-back system - it replaces the factory exhaust section from behind the rear axle, which includes removing the factory muffler and replacing it with straight-through pipes and quad tips. Installation requires cutting the factory exhaust pipe. A reciprocating saw, angle grinder with cutoff wheel, or exhaust pipe cutter is needed to sever the pipe at the appropriate measurement point per the included instructions.
  • This system functions as a muffler delete - the factory rear muffler is removed and not replaced. The result is a significantly louder and more characterful exhaust note compared to stock, but without the drone that some full muffler-delete installs produce due to the straight-through pipe design.
  • Sold as a complete axle-back kit - all necessary hardware and tips are included. The factory mounting hangers are reused.

Features

  • Quad-tip axle-back / muffler delete configuration - the S5203AL removes the factory rear muffler and replaces the entire rear exhaust section with 2.5-inch straight-through aluminized steel pipes fitted with four polished T304 stainless steel tips. The factory muffler on the Explorer ST and Aviator 3.0L is a notably restrictive unit that suppresses most of the EcoBoost twin-turbo V6's exhaust character - removing it with the S5203AL reveals the engine's natural sound signature in a way that makes the vehicle genuinely more engaging to drive.
  • Street Profile sound character - MBRP tuned the S5203AL to its Street Profile: a balance of sporty exhaust note when accelerating without being obnoxious during steady-state cruising or when a passenger is in the vehicle. Multiple owner reviews confirm no drone at highway speeds, which distinguishes this design from a raw open-pipe muffler delete. The sound is described as "a nice little growl from the 3-liter V6" with an exotic and sporty character that adds to the vehicle's performance character without crossing into an uncomfortable daily-driver experience.
  • 2.5-inch mandrel-bent aluminized steel tubing - the axle-back section uses 2.5-inch mandrel-bent tubing, matching the factory pipe diameter at the connection point and routing cleanly to the quad rear exits. Mandrel bending maintains the tube's full internal diameter through each bend for consistent flow without turbulence-inducing deformation.
  • Four polished T304 stainless steel tips - the system exits through four individual T304 stainless steel polished tips with a 4-inch OD, giving the Explorer ST and Aviator the aggressive quad-exit appearance to match their performance character. T304 stainless is fully corrosion-proof, maintaining its mirror-polished finish through all-weather use and repeated heat cycling without discoloration or rust.
  • 16-gauge heavy-duty aluminized steel pipe construction - the pipes are built from MBRP's Armor Lite aluminized steel, providing a serviceable, rust-resistant platform for moderate climates at a lower cost than stainless steel systems. The same design and geometry is available in T304 stainless (S52033CF with carbon fiber tips, or S5203304 in polished stainless) for buyers in harsher climates.
  • Quick installation - while the system requires cutting the factory exhaust pipe, the actual installation is straightforward. A Ford dealership technician noted a 20-minute installation with a cutoff wheel and impact wrench. General DIY install time with the proper cutting tool is 30-60 minutes, using the factory hanger locations without drilling or fabrication.

Product Description

The MBRP S5203AL is an Armor Lite (Installer Series) 2.5-inch axle-back exhaust system for the 2020-2025 Ford Explorer ST, Explorer Platinum, Explorer King Ranch, and Lincoln Aviator equipped with the 3.0L V6 EcoBoost engine. As an axle-back/muffler delete system, the S5203AL removes the factory rear muffler - which aggressively suppresses the twin-turbo V6's natural exhaust character - and replaces the entire rear section with 2.5-inch mandrel-bent aluminized steel pipes exiting through four polished T304 stainless steel 4-inch tips. The transformation in sound character is significant: the EcoBoost V6 gains an exotic, sporty growl under acceleration that reflects its actual performance capability, while the straight-through pipe design and Street Profile tuning avoid the cabin drone and excessive volume that a completely uncorked muffler delete can produce. Multiple owners specifically note the absence of highway drone as a standout characteristic.

The quad-tip exit arrangement gives the Explorer ST and Aviator a visual upgrade to match the audio improvement - four polished stainless tips filling the factory bumper cutouts and replacing the comparatively modest factory tip presentation. Tip material is T304 stainless steel, fully corrosion-resistant and mirror-polished to maintain its appearance through all-weather daily use. The aluminized steel pipe construction is MBRP's Armor Lite value-tier material, suitable for moderate climates without heavy salt exposure. Buyers in harsher climates can step up to MBRP's T304 stainless version of this same system for full corrosion immunity.

Installation requires cutting the factory exhaust pipe at the axle, which is the only reason this takes slightly more preparation than a true bolt-on system. With a reciprocating saw or cutoff wheel, a Ford dealership technician completed the installation in 20 minutes. DIY installation with basic tools typically runs 30-60 minutes, using the factory hanger locations throughout with all required hardware included. The 3.0L EcoBoost engine restriction is important: this system is not compatible with any Explorer powered by the 2.3L 4-cylinder EcoBoost, even though the exhaust tip location appears similar. Backed by MBRP's 3-year limited warranty on Armor Lite products.
