Product Description

The Mahle S42170.020 is a .020" overbore (4.036" bore) piston ring set for the 1989-2007 Dodge RAM 5.9L Cummins diesel, covering both 12V (6BT) and 24V (ISB) engine variants. This single-cylinder ring set features Mahle's premium chrome/ceramic top ring upgrade for improved wear resistance and sealing over standard rings. Made to OE-quality specifications as a direct factory replacement, these rings fit both stock OEM pistons and Mahle aftermarket cast pistons that have been machined to .020" overbore.

Each set contains the complete ring package for one piston -- top compression ring, second compression ring, and oil ring assembly. A quantity of 6 sets is required for a complete 5.9L engine. Ring end gaps should be file-fit to the engine builder's specification based on bore size, application, and expected boost/temperature conditions. Pairs with Mahle 224-3673.020 pistons for 2004.5-2007 High Output engines, 224-3523.020 for 2003-2004, and 224-3355.020 for 1998.5-2002. Also available in standard bore (S42170) and .040" overbore (S42170.040).
