Fitment Notes

  • Rear shock absorber - position is Rear Left and Rear Right. Sold individually (per shock); two units are required for a complete rear axle replacement set.
  • Fits both the second-generation Eclipse (2G, 1995-1999, D32 platform) and the third-generation Eclipse (3G, 2000-2005) at the rear. Despite the platform change between generations, the rear shock mounting geometry is shared and this single KONI part number is confirmed to fit both.
  • The companion front shock (8041-1207SPORT) fits the 2G Eclipse (1995-1999) only - it does not fit the 3G Eclipse. For a 2000-2005 Eclipse, only the rear position uses this part number; the front requires a separate KONI part number.
  • Fits the Eagle Talon (1995-1998) in all trims including FWD and AWD variants. Eagle discontinued the Talon nameplate after the 1998 model year.
  • Fits the Chrysler Sebring Coupe (1995-2000) in LX and LXi trims. Does not fit the Chrysler Sebring Convertible - the coupe and convertible use different rear suspension designs.
  • Fits the Dodge Avenger (1995-2000) in Base and ES trims. The Avenger coupe shares its rear suspension architecture with the Chrysler Sebring Coupe.
  • Compatible with OEM spring rates and performance lowering springs up to 35 mm (approximately 1.4 in) of drop.
  • Sold per shock - one unit only. The companion front shock for the 2G Eclipse / Talon / Sebring / Avenger is KONI 8041-1207SPORT.

Features

  • KONI Sport 8041 Series externally adjustable rebound damping - the adjustment knob at the top of the damper allows rebound to be tuned from full soft to full firm without removing the shock from the vehicle, enabling convenient on-car adjustment across the full tuning range.
  • Approximately 100% rebound adjustment range - up to three times the range of competing adjustable shock designs - accommodating both OEM spring rates and a wide variety of performance lowering springs without requiring a different unit.
  • Twin-tube, low-pressure gas-charged damper construction engineered for the Eclipse / DSM platform rear suspension, delivering improved road holding, rear body roll reduction, and rear axle composure over OEM or worn replacement shocks.
  • Yellow-painted shock body - KONI Sport's iconic finish, indicating a product from KONI's performance-oriented range and a long-established benchmark rear shock upgrade for both the 2G DSM community and 3G Eclipse owners.
  • Fits both FWD and AWD rear configurations of the 2G Eclipse and Eagle Talon without modification - the rear suspension mounting geometry is shared across drivetrain variants.
  • Significantly reduces rear body roll, rear squat under acceleration, and pitch under braking, improving rear axle stability and overall dynamic balance across all supported platforms - from the naturally-aspirated Sebring Coupe and Avenger to the turbocharged AWD GSX and TSi AWD.
  • Fully compatible with Ground Control coilover conversion kits and similar setups designed for the 2G Eclipse / DSM rear suspension, allowing ride height adjustment over a wide range while retaining KONI's externally adjustable valving.
  • Re-buildable and re-valvable - the shock can be serviced and returned to factory-equivalent performance after extended use, or re-valved for custom damping characteristics for dedicated autocross, track, or drag builds.
  • Backed by KONI North America's Limited Lifetime Warranty for street use in the United States and Canada.

Product Description

The KONI 8041-1208Sport is a yellow-painted, externally adjustable rear shock absorber from KONI's Sport 8041 Series, covering the widest range of any DSM-platform rear shock in the KONI lineup. At the rear, this single part number spans both the second-generation Mitsubishi Eclipse (2G, 1995-1999, all trims including FWD and AWD) and the third-generation Eclipse (3G, 2000-2005, all trims), as well as the 1995-1998 Eagle Talon (all trims, FWD and AWD), the 1995-2000 Chrysler Sebring Coupe (LX and LXi, excluding Convertible), and the 1995-2000 Dodge Avenger (Base and ES). The shared rear shock mounting geometry across these platforms - despite front suspension differences between the 2G and 3G Eclipse generations - makes this a uniquely versatile rear damper covering over a decade of Eclipse production in a single part number.

As a Sport Series 8041 damper, the 8041-1208Sport delivers improved rear body roll resistance, reduced rear squat under acceleration, and sharper rear axle composure over OEM or worn replacement shocks. The external rebound adjustment knob allows the full ~100% tuning range to be accessed without removing the shock from the vehicle, and the damper is compatible with performance lowering springs up to 35 mm of drop as well as Ground Control coilover conversion systems for the 2G Eclipse/Talon platform. For 3G Eclipse owners seeking a complete front-and-rear KONI upgrade, note that this rear unit (8041-1208Sport) is used at the rear for both generations, while the front unit differs by generation - the 2G uses 8041-1207SPORT and the 3G requires a separate KONI front part number.

This shock is sold individually - two units are required for a complete rear axle installation. The companion front shock for the 2G Eclipse, Eagle Talon, Chrysler Sebring Coupe, and Dodge Avenger is KONI 8041-1207SPORT. The damper is re-buildable and re-valvable, extending its productive service life and enabling custom valving for dedicated performance builds. Backed by KONI North America's Limited Lifetime Warranty for street use in the United States and Canada.
