Vehicle Fitment

  • 2003-2006 Dodge Sprinter 2500 (T1N; Cargo Van / Passenger Van; I5 2.7L CDI Diesel, RWD)
  • 2003-2006 Freightliner Sprinter 2500 (T1N; Cargo Van / Passenger Van; I5 2.7L CDI Diesel, RWD)

Fitment Notes

  • Rear shock absorber - position is Rear Left and Rear Right. Sold individually (per shock); two units are required for a complete rear axle replacement.
  • Fits the T1N-generation Sprinter 2500 sold in the North American market under both the Dodge and Freightliner badges (2003-2006). The Dodge and Freightliner nameplates cover the same vehicle - the Mercedes-Benz W901-W905 (T1N) Sprinter platform. Both are supported by this part number.
  • Fits the Sprinter 2500 variant only. The Sprinter 3500 (higher GVWR) uses a different rear suspension configuration and is not covered by this part number.
  • Does not fit the second-generation (NCV3) Sprinter (2007+), which was sold under the Dodge Sprinter, Freightliner Sprinter, and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter names. The NCV3 generation requires a separate KONI part number (82-2585).
  • This shock uses internal (compress-to-adjust) rebound adjustment - the unit must be removed from the vehicle and compressed to change the rebound setting. Adjustment is recommended during initial installation to set the desired damping level before reinstalling.
  • Sold per shock - two units are required for a complete rear axle installation. No companion front-axle KONI shock is specified for this platform within the North American product line.

Features

  • KONI 82 Series Special twin-tube shock absorber - custom-valved for the T1N Sprinter 2500 rear suspension, delivering improved ride stability, reduced body roll, and better load-carrying composure over worn OEM shock absorbers under both empty and loaded conditions.
  • Internally adjustable rebound - the 82 Series design allows the rebound damping to be set before installation to match the vehicle's load level or the operator's preference, compensating for wear over time or tuning for cargo weight.
  • Twin-tube, non-gas-charged design specifically suited to the Sprinter 2500's rear axle geometry and operating loads - a design choice that makes this unit particularly effective for the Sprinter's high-frequency, high-load van application.
  • Red-painted shock body - KONI's Special/Classic series finish, indicating the original KONI quality and engineering lineage that predates the Sport (yellow) and STR.T (orange) ranges.
  • Addresses the T1N Sprinter 2500's well-documented rear suspension instability and pitching behavior - particularly relevant for high-roof models and loaded cargo van applications where worn OEM shocks create significant body motion over road irregularities.
  • Rugged construction designed for the commercial van duty cycle - suitable for both lightly loaded daily driving and consistently loaded cargo applications.
  • Direct bolt-on replacement - eye-to-eye upper and lower mount configuration (14.55 mm eyes) matches OEM mounting hardware with no modification required.
  • Backed by KONI North America's Limited Lifetime Warranty for street use in the United States and Canada.

Product Description

The KONI 82-2434 is a red-painted, internally adjustable rear shock absorber from KONI's 82 Series Special line, engineered for the 2003-2006 Dodge Sprinter 2500 and 2003-2006 Freightliner Sprinter 2500 - both North American names for the same Mercedes-Benz W901-W905 (T1N) Sprinter platform. The twin-tube, non-gas-charged design is custom-valved for the T1N 2500's rear axle configuration, delivering improved ride stability, reduced body roll, and better load-carrying damping behavior over worn OEM shock absorbers. The 82 Series is KONI's original Special line - the engineering lineage that established KONI's reputation for quality and precision, predating the Sport (yellow) and STR.T (orange) ranges - and this application benefits from KONI's decades of experience optimizing damper performance for commercial van suspensions.

A distinctive feature of the 82 Series design is its internally adjustable rebound: the damping level is set by removing the shock from the vehicle and compressing it to the desired setting before reinstallation. This allows the rebound to be pre-tuned to match the vehicle's typical load level - firmer for consistently heavy cargo loads, softer for lighter or empty van operation - or to compensate for progressive wear over high-mileage duty cycles. The 19.57-inch extended / 12.72-inch collapsed eye-to-eye dimensions match the OEM Sprinter 2500 rear shock mounting exactly, making installation a direct bolt-on replacement with no modification required.

This part number covers the T1N generation (2003-2006) only. The second-generation NCV3 Sprinter (2007+), sold under the Dodge, Freightliner, and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter names, requires a separate KONI part number (82-2585). The 82-2434 covers the Sprinter 2500 variant; the 3500 uses different rear suspension and is not supported. Sold individually - two units are required for a complete rear axle installation. Backed by KONI North America's Limited Lifetime Warranty for street use in the United States and Canada.
