Fitment Notes

  • This is the 0.25mm undersize variant; for use only on crankshafts that have been reground 0.25mm under standard journal diameter. Do not install on a standard (unground) crankshaft.
  • Designed for engines with Audi/VW engine codes ABB, ABM, ADP, PP, and RN only; confirm engine code stamped on block before ordering.
  • Engine code ADP is 1.6L I4 (74 kW / 100 hp); ABB is 1.6L I4 (75 kW / 102 hp); ABM is 1.8L I4; PP and RN are 1.6L I4 carburetor variants (51-55 kW / 70-75 hp).
  • Oil hole diameter: 1.5 mm - confirm rod housing oil hole matches before installation.
  • Designed for steel crankshaft applications; not recommended for aftermarket billet or aluminum crankshafts unless specifically confirmed compatible.
  • CR4104XPD variant (dowel hole) is available separately for applications requiring a locating pin; confirm rod housing type before ordering.
  • Audi A4 Quattro (1997-2001) with engine code ADP is an AWD application; all other listed fitments are FWD.

Features

  • pMaxBlackâ„¢ overlay technology: proprietary nano-scaled hardening process applied over the tri-metal Babbitt layer creates a fatigue-resistant black shield capable of withstanding up to 10,200 PSI - significantly exceeding OE and standard performance bearing limits.
  • Tri-Metal Copper-Based construction: steel backing, lead bronze (copper-based) intermediate layer, and hardened Babbitt overlay combine to deliver superior load distribution, fatigue resistance, and compatibility across a wide range of operating temperatures.
  • RadiaLockâ„¢ crush height optimization: each shell is individually engineered to an optimal crush height, maximizing contact with the rod housing bore for improved heat transfer and prevention of bearing movement or fretting under load.
  • EccentriXâ„¢ eccentricity profiling: elasto-hydrodynamic analysis determines a custom eccentricity value for each bearing, promoting a consistent hydrodynamic oil wedge and even load distribution across the full journal surface.
  • Bull's Eye Toleranceâ„¢: wall thickness is held to ±0.0001 inch - the tightest tolerance in the engine bearing industry - ensuring target oil clearance is achieved consistently across every shell in the set without selective fitting or additional machining.
  • 1.5 mm oil hole: precisely sized oil ingress aperture ensures continuous lubrication delivery to the crankshaft journal surface, even under sustained high-load and high-RPM conditions.
  • Leaded or lead-free options available: the XP series is offered in both leaded and lead-free tri-metal formulations to suit low to heavy engine load applications and regional compliance requirements.
  • Ideal for circle track, drag racing, offshore, and other sustained high-load race applications utilizing steel crankshafts; equally suitable as a premium upgrade for performance street builds on VW/Audi platforms with reground crankshafts.

Product Description

The King CR4104XP0.25 is the 0.25mm undersize variant of King's race-grade CR4104XP connecting rod bearing set, engineered specifically for Audi and Volkswagen 1.6L and 1.8L inline-four engines carrying engine codes ABB, ABM, ADP, PP, and RN - a family of engines spanning decades of VW/Audi production across platforms including the Golf, Jetta, Rabbit, Scirocco, Cabriolet, Passat, Quantum, Fox, Cabrio, Beetle, Derby, Pointer, and Audi 80, 90, 4000, A4, TT, as well as SEAT Ibiza, Cordoba, Leon, and Toledo. This undersize variant is intended for use on crankshafts that have been reground 0.25mm below the standard journal diameter and must not be installed on an unground standard crankshaft. Built around King's pMaxBlackâ„¢ tri-metal structure, these bearings feature a steel backing, a copper-based lead bronze intermediate layer, and a nano-hardened Babbitt overlay capable of withstanding up to 10,200 PSI - making them the correct choice for any of these engines that have undergone a crank regrind during a performance or high-mileage rebuild.

King's engineering technologies deliver precision performance throughout the engine's life. EccentriX™ profiling creates a calculated eccentricity that promotes an optimal hydrodynamic oil wedge at the rod journal, while RadiaLock™ crush optimization ensures firm, stable shell seating in the connecting rod bore to eliminate fretting and maximize thermal transfer. The 1.5 mm oil hole ensures consistent lubrication delivery to the journal surface under sustained high-load conditions, and Bull's Eye Tolerance™ manufacturing holds wall thickness to ±0.0001 inch across all four pairs - meaning even with a reground crank, target oil clearance is achieved without additional selective fitting or machine work.

Before ordering, confirm the engine code stamped on the block matches ABB, ABM, ADP, PP, or RN, and measure the reground crankshaft journal diameter to verify it falls within the 0.25mm undersize range of 47.51-47.53 mm. For applications requiring a dowel-hole locating pin in the rod housing, the CR4104XPD variant is available separately. This bearing set suits circle track, drag racing, offshore racing, or high-performance street engine rebuilds across the broad VW/Audi 4-cylinder platform where a crankshaft regrind has been performed.
