Fitment Notes

• Designed to service one complete axle - the kit includes two uniballs and two retaining rings to replace worn joints on both driver and passenger side UCAs in a single service event
• Uniball replacement requires removing the uniball from the UCA housing - a hydraulic press or ICON's On-Vehicle Uniball Replacement Tool Kit (part #614518) is required; the 614518 tool allows on-vehicle service without a press and is strongly recommended to reduce the risk of UCA damage
• For billet aluminum ICON UCAs, a 7-degree angled washer (included with the 614518 tool kit) is required during installation - exceptions are ICON part numbers 58560 and 58570
• Anti-seize compound included in this kit must be applied to the uniball housing during installation to prevent future seizing and ensure ease of future service
• A front end alignment is required after uniball replacement
• For tubular steel ICON UCA owners, ICON recommends the Uniball Cover Cap Kit (part #191011) as a companion accessory - the cap seals out dirt and contaminants to extend uniball service life between replacements
• Uniball joints should be inspected periodically for wear, particularly on vehicles used frequently off-road or in wet, muddy environments where contaminant ingestion accelerates PTFE liner wear

Product Description

The ICON Vehicle Dynamics 614500 is a universal uniball upper control arm service kit designed to replace worn or damaged uniball joints in all ICON tubular steel and billet aluminum uniball-equipped upper control arms. Unlike OEM-style ball joints, uniball joints rely on a PTFE liner for their low-friction articulation - and that liner is inherently more susceptible to accelerated wear when exposed to dirt, mud, water, and trail debris without adequate sealing protection. On vehicles used regularly for off-road driving, PTFE liner wear manifests as looseness, clunking over bumps, and degraded steering precision. When this happens, the uniball joint must be replaced - and in most cases, both sides should be serviced at the same time to maintain balanced suspension geometry and handling.

The 614500 kit provides everything needed to service both driver and passenger side uniballs in a single purchase: two replacement uniball joints, two Spiroloc retaining rings, and a tube of anti-seize compound. The Spiroloc rings are the same locking ring type used in original ICON UCA production and secure each uniball within the UCA housing bore to prevent backing out under load. The anti-seize compound must be applied during installation to prevent galvanic corrosion and seizing between the uniball and the control arm housing - this is especially important on billet aluminum UCAs, where metal-to-metal contact between dissimilar alloys without a barrier can cause long-term seizure that complicates future servicing.

Uniball replacement requires pressing the worn joint out of the UCA housing and pressing the replacement in. This can be performed with a hydraulic shop press or, more conveniently, with ICON's On-Vehicle Uniball Replacement Tool Kit (part #614518), which allows the uniball to be replaced with the control arm still installed on the vehicle and eliminates the need for a hydraulic press. When using the 614518 tool on billet aluminum UCAs, the included 7-degree angled washer must be used during installation (except on ICON part numbers 58560 and 58570). A front end alignment is required following uniball replacement. For tubular steel UCA owners, ICON additionally recommends the Uniball Cover Cap Kit (part #191011) to seal out contaminants and extend the service interval between uniball replacements.
