Vehicle Fitment

  • 1991-1997 Toyota Land Cruiser 80 Series (All Trims, 4WD - FJ80, FZJ80, HDJ80)

Fitment Notes

  • Compatible with stock ride height and front lifts of 0-3" over stock
  • This shock is for the front axle only - see ICON part #56510 for the matching rear shock for the Land Cruiser 80 Series (1991-1997) and 100 Series (1998-2007)
  • Not side-specific - each unit fits either the driver or passenger side front position
  • Sold individually - a quantity of 2 is required for a complete front shock replacement
  • For extreme off-road use, ICON recommends upgrading to the V.S. 2.5 Series shock for increased damping capacity and heat resistance
  • This shock is a core component of the ICON 1991-1997 Land Cruiser 80 Series Stage 1 Suspension System (part #K53091), used in conjunction with front and rear dual rate spring kits, sway bar relocation, caster correction, and brake line extension hardware

Features

  • Vehicle-specific (VS) valving tuned by ICON engineers exclusively for the 1991-1997 Toyota Land Cruiser 80 Series front suspension geometry and weight characteristics, delivering optimized damping performance both on- and off-road
  • Nitrogen-charged monotube design with internal reservoir eliminates oil and gas mixing under hard use, providing fade-resistant, consistent damping throughout the shock's full stroke range
  • One-piece linear/digressive piston delivers progressive damping response - softer during small daily-driving inputs, progressively firmer under larger off-road compressions for improved bottoming resistance
  • Premium grade 5WT shock oil provides consistent suspension damping across a wide operating temperature range, from cold morning starts to sustained trail use
  • 5/8" chrome-plated hardened steel shaft resists corrosion and pitting for long-term durability in off-road and daily-driven environments
  • 6063 anodized aluminum shock body provides superior heat dissipation, excellent corrosion resistance, and a high-tech appearance in the wheel well
  • 6061 aluminum rod end, top cap, and internals deliver strength and long-term durability throughout the shock's service life
  • Polyurethane bushings, zinc-plated sleeves, and forged steel mounting stems provide OE factory-type fitment with no modification to mounting hardware required
  • Nitrile rubber top-out bumper provides noise-free operation at full shock extension
  • 100% rebuildable and 100% revalveable - serviceable by any qualified shock technician using ICON's available service parts for an essentially unlimited structural service life

Product Description

The ICON Vehicle Dynamics 56509 is a V.S. 2.0 Aluminum Series internal reservoir front shock absorber engineered specifically for the 1991-1997 Toyota Land Cruiser 80 Series - the FJ80, FZJ80, and HDJ80 - in all 4WD configurations. The "VS" designation confirms this shock was valved specifically for the 80 Series front suspension geometry, spring rates, and vehicle weight rather than adapted from a generic calibration. Compatible with stock ride height and front lifts up to 3" over stock, the 56509 is the standard front shock used in ICON's 80 Series Stage 1 Suspension System and pairs with the 56510 rear shock for a complete front-to-rear ICON upgrade. The 80 Series platform is a well-established base for serious off-road builds, and the 56509 provides a direct performance upgrade over the aging factory shocks without the complexity of a full coilover conversion.

The shock body is constructed from 6063 anodized aluminum for superior heat dissipation and corrosion resistance - a significant improvement over OE steel-bodied shocks. Inside, a nitrogen-charged monotube design with internal reservoir prevents oil and gas mixing under hard use, delivering consistent, fade-resistant damping during sustained trail driving. The one-piece linear/digressive piston with vehicle-specific valving provides a damping curve that remains compliant for daily road use while ramping up progressively as the shock approaches full compression. A 5/8" chrome-plated hardened steel shaft resists corrosion and pitting, while 6061 aluminum rod ends, top cap, and internals keep the shock light and strong. Polyurethane bushings with zinc-plated sleeves and forged steel mounting stems retain full OE bolt-on fitment with no modifications required.

The 56509 is sold individually - two units are required for a complete front replacement - and fits either the driver or passenger side front position. Every unit is 100% rebuildable and revalveable by any qualified shock technician using ICON's available service parts, making it a long-term investment rather than a disposable component. For 80 Series owners running particularly aggressive off-road terrain or sustained high-speed desert use, ICON recommends the V.S. 2.5 Series shock as a step up in damping capacity and thermal performance.
