Product Description

The ICON Vehicle Dynamics 56506R is a V.S. 2.0 Aluminum Series remote reservoir rear shock absorber engineered specifically for the 2007-2021 Toyota Tundra - both 2WD and 4WD - compatible with stock ride height and rear lifts up to 1.5" over stock. The "VS" designation confirms this shock was valved specifically for the Tundra's rear suspension weight, geometry, and spring rates rather than adapted from a generic calibration. The "R" suffix denotes the remote reservoir variant - distinguishing it from the internal reservoir 56506 - and is the key specification that makes this shock better suited for sustained off-road driving, towing, and higher-speed use where heat buildup in the shock body becomes a factor. By separating the reservoir from the shock body and connecting it via a hose, the 56506R increases total oil volume and heat-dissipation surface area, helping maintain consistent damping characteristics over longer, harder runs.

The shock body is constructed from 6063-T831 hard anodized aluminum for excellent heat rejection and corrosion resistance. Inside, a one-piece linear/digressive piston with vehicle-specific valving provides a damping curve that remains compliant for daily driving and light trail use, then ramps up progressively as the shock approaches full compression - reducing harshness while improving bottoming resistance when it matters. The 5/8" polished nitro steel shaft, 6061 aluminum triple-stage seal head with Viton seals, and Teflon-lined shaft bearing are all built for long-term durability and leak-resistant operation. A nitrile rubber top-out bumper eliminates noise at full extension, and polyurethane bushings with zinc-plated sleeves and forged steel mounting stems retain OE factory bolt-on fitment.

This shock is sold individually - two units are required for a complete rear replacement - and comes with application-specific reservoir mounting hardware. It is not compatible with the 2022+ Tundra (3rd-generation XK70 platform), which uses a different shock; see ICON part #56516R for that application. TRD Pro-equipped 2007-2021 Tundra models are also not compatible. Every 56506R is 100% rebuildable and revalveable by any qualified shock technician using ICON's service parts, offering an essentially unlimited service life for the shock body itself.
