Vehicle Fitment

  • 1991-1998 Nissan 180SX (RPS13, RWD, SR20DET 2.0L Turbocharged I4)
  • 1996-1998 Nissan 180SX (KPS13, RWD, SR20DE 2.0L DOHC I4)
  • 1991-1993 Nissan Silvia (PS13, RWD, SR20DE / SR20DET 2.0L I4)
  • 1993-1998 Nissan Silvia (S14, RWD, SR20DE / SR20DET 2.0L I4)
  • 1999-2002 Nissan Silvia (S15, RWD, SR20DE / SR20DET 2.0L I4)

Fitment Notes

  • Compatible with both SR20DE (naturally aspirated) and SR20DET (turbocharged) engine variants across all S-chassis generations
  • Bore size: 88mm - compatible with stock bore and standard oversized bore applications up to 88mm
  • Thickness: 1.2mm - yields an approximate compression ratio of 8.7:1
  • HKS gaskets are not designed to correct sealing problems caused by head or block surface irregularities - confirm surface flatness before installation
  • Multiple thickness options available across the HKS SR20 gasket range to suit different compression ratio requirements
  • Professional engine builder installation required

Features

  • Stopper Type design uses molded stopper rings around each combustion chamber to form a high-pressure mechanical seal
  • Multi-layer steel (MLS) construction maximizes plate count for superior combustion sealing under high-boost conditions
  • Special heat- and corrosion-resistant metal alloy construction engineered for sustained high-horsepower and high-boost environments
  • Fluorine rubber coating on all sealing surfaces provides long-term chemical resistance and sealing integrity
  • Stopper fold design is kept compact while maintaining structural rigidity under extreme cylinder pressure
  • One plate side is completely flat, allowing stopper layers to stack tightly even in tight combustion chamber locations
  • Compatible with standard and certain oversized cylinder bores for engine builds requiring a larger bore diameter
  • Suitable for both naturally aspirated and turbocharged SR20 applications across S13, S14, and S15 platforms

Product Description

The HKS 2301-RN039 is a 1.2mm Stopper Type multi-layer steel head gasket engineered for the Nissan SR20DE and SR20DET engines used across the S13, S14, and S15 Silvia and 180SX chassis from 1991 to 2002. Designed to handle the elevated cylinder pressures generated by high-boost SR20DET builds where OEM head gaskets are known to fail, the Stopper Type construction forms a mechanical seal through molded stopper rings around each combustion chamber opening, creating a step within the gasket stack that holds combustion pressure far more reliably than a standard bead-type gasket. The multi-layer steel plates and fluorine rubber coating deliver heat and corrosion resistance appropriate for sustained forced induction use.

At 88mm bore and 1.2mm compressed thickness, this gasket is the thicker option in the HKS SR20 range and yields an approximate compression ratio of 8.7:1, making it well suited for turbocharged builds where reduced dynamic compression is desirable for supporting higher boost pressure safely. The 1.2mm variant also accounts for minor head surface refinishing that is commonly performed during SR20DET engine rebuilds. For builds requiring a higher compression ratio, thinner HKS SR20 variants are available. Confirm head and block surface flatness before installation - this gasket is not intended to compensate for surface irregularities.
