Vehicle Fitment

  • 1997-2021 Chevrolet Express 2500 (All Trims, Single Rear Wheel, All Engines)
  • 1997-2021 Chevrolet Express 3500 (All Trims, Single Rear Wheel, All Engines)
  • 1997-2021 GMC Savana 2500 (All Trims, Single Rear Wheel, All Engines)
  • 1997-2021 GMC Savana 3500 (All Trims, Single Rear Wheel, All Engines)

Fitment Notes

  • Fits Single Rear Wheel (SRW) configurations only - does not officially support Dual Rear Wheel (DRW) Express 3500 or Savana 3500 models.
  • For Express 2500 and Savana 2500 models from 2003 onward: fits models rated under 7,600 lbs. GVW or over 8,500 lbs. GVW. Does not fit Express 2500 or Savana 2500 models with a GVW rating between 7,600 and 8,500 lbs.
  • For Express 2500 and Savana 2500 models from 1997-2002: fits all Single Rear Wheel variants regardless of GVW rating.
  • Drilling of 4 frame holes is required during installation - a 7/16" or 1/2" drill bit is needed. Allow approximately 1.5-2 hours for installation. A floor jack or vehicle ramps are recommended.
  • Fits Class C motorhomes and conversion vans built on the GM G-Van/full-size van platform within the above model and year range.
  • Hellwig recommends pairing with a Hellwig front sway bar for a complete front-to-rear handling upgrade.

Features

  • Purpose-built rear sway bar for the 1997-2021 GM full-size van platform - fills a significant factory gap, as these vans do not come equipped with a rear sway bar from the factory.
  • 1-3/8" diameter solid, heat-treated 4140 chromoly spring steel - significantly larger than any factory bar would be, delivering a major improvement in lateral stability.
  • Dramatically reduces body roll, crosswind sensitivity, and side-to-side sway on high-profile van bodies, high-top conversions, passenger configurations, and Class C motorhome builds.
  • Keeps weight more evenly distributed across all four tires during cornering, improving traction and reducing driver fatigue on long hauls.
  • High-durometer polyurethane bushings included for superior roll resistance, reduced noise, and longer service life versus rubber.
  • Heat-formed as a single piece from 4140 chromoly steel - more resistant to shape deformation at the bends than cold-bent aftermarket alternatives.
  • Gray hammertone powdercoated finish for long-term corrosion resistance across all operating and weather conditions.
  • All mounting hardware included - no additional parts required beyond a drill bit for the 4 required frame holes.
  • ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturing at Hellwig's Visalia, California facility ensures precision quality on every unit.
  • Made in the USA. Backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Product Description

The Hellwig 7635 Rear Sway Bar is a direct-fit suspension upgrade engineered for the 1997-2021 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full-size vans in 2500 and 3500 Single Rear Wheel configurations. From the factory, these vans ship without any rear sway bar whatsoever - a significant omission given how high-profile van bodies, passenger configurations, and conversion builds naturally shift the center of gravity upward. The result is pronounced body roll in corners, noticeable crosswind sensitivity on highways, and an unsettled driving feel especially when loaded. The Hellwig 7635 addresses all of this directly with a solid 1-3/8" heat-treated 4140 chromoly bar, which adds substantial lateral stiffness to the rear axle and keeps weight distributed more evenly across all four tires during cornering and lane changes.

Owners of high-top conversion vans, extended passenger vans, work cargo vans, and Class C motorhomes built on this GM platform report immediate and significant improvement after installation - including dramatically reduced lean in turns, much less susceptibility to passing truck turbulence, and a far more controlled feel both loaded and empty. Installation requires drilling four holes in the frame rail, a 7/16" or 1/2" drill bit, and approximately 1.5-2 hours of work. A floor jack or ramps are recommended to provide adequate clearance. Thread lock compound and grease are included in the kit. For Express 2500 and Savana 2500 models from 2003 onward, fitment applies to GVW ratings under 7,600 lbs. or over 8,500 lbs. - models between those ratings are not supported.

Covering the complete 1997-2021 production run of the Express and Savana platforms across all SRW 2500 and 3500 trim levels and engine options, the 7635 is one of the most broadly applicable van sway bars in the Hellwig catalog. Built at Hellwig's ISO 9001:2015 certified Visalia, California facility and backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty, it is an American-made upgrade that transforms the on-road behavior of a platform that factory engineers left significantly underbraced at the rear.
