Fitment Notes

  • This kit is designed for trucks equipped with a standard factory leaf spring rear suspension. It is NOT compatible with trucks equipped with independent rear suspension, coil springs, or air suspension.
  • IMPORTANT: If your vehicle is equipped with factory contact overload springs, verify your specific year and model in the fitment list above for special instructions. In most cases, factory contact overload springs must be removed before installing the 61912 helper springs. Do not install over factory contact overloads without checking your vehicle-specific instructions.
  • This helper spring kit does NOT raise the vehicle's ride height when the truck is empty - it is designed to prevent rear sag under load only, maintaining level ride height when weight is applied to the bed or hitch.
  • Includes everything needed for both sides - purchase only one kit per truck.
  • The spring stack must be installed with the long end toward the rear of the vehicle and the short end toward the front. Incorrect orientation will affect load distribution and function.
  • For Ford F-150 applications listed in the fitment: tighten the front leaf tip U-bolt until the gap in the polyurethane silencer bushing is fully compressed during installation.
  • Sold as a kit - 2 helper spring assemblies (one per side).

Features

  • Level load capacity up to 2,500 lbs - the kit increases the truck's effective rear spring rate to support up to 2,500 lbs of additional payload in the bed, on the hitch, or from added equipment like campers, utility bodies, or heavy cargo, while maintaining the factory level ride height rather than allowing the rear to sag under load.
  • Over-axle mounting design - the helper springs install on top of the existing factory leaf spring pack using U-bolts that clamp the helper spring assembly to the main spring. No factory spring disassembly, no pressing of center bolts, and no spring pack removal is required, making this one of the simplest and fastest load-assist installations available.
  • Silent Ride polyurethane stability blocks - Hellwig's proprietary polyurethane blocks are placed between the helper spring stack and the main spring. These blocks isolate the metal-to-metal contact that would otherwise cause squeaking, rattling, or creaking as the springs flex under load and during normal driving, providing the noise-free operation that gives this product line its name.
  • Tunable design - the spring preload and helper spring engagement point can be adjusted by repositioning the helper spring stack fore or aft on the main spring, allowing the installer to optimize the balance between empty ride quality and loaded performance for the specific application and vehicle weight.
  • Zinc-plated and powder-coated hardware - all mounting hardware is zinc electroplated for corrosion resistance, and the spring leaves are finished in Hellwig's signature Hammer Tone gray powder coat, providing protection against road salt, moisture, and UV degradation for the life of the vehicle.
  • Works in conjunction with existing factory suspension - the helper springs add load support capacity without replacing or significantly altering the factory spring pack's behavior at light loads, preserving acceptable empty ride quality while dramatically improving loaded stability.
  • Reduces rear sag and squat under load - by increasing the effective spring rate when weight is applied, the helper springs prevent the excessive rear-end squat that causes nose-high vehicle attitude, headlight aim degradation, reduced braking efficiency, and increased trailer tongue weight leverage problems common in overloaded stock-sprung trucks.
  • Made in the USA - designed, tested, and manufactured by Hellwig Products Co., Inc. in Visalia, California. ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certified manufacturing facility.

Product Description

The Hellwig 61912 Silent Support System Series Helper Springs are a rear leaf spring load-assist kit designed for Chevrolet and GMC trucks spanning from the classic C/K body style trucks of 1967 through the modern Silverado and Sierra 1500 platform through 2020. The Silent Support System addresses one of the most common complaints about over-axle helper springs - noise - through the inclusion of Hellwig's proprietary polyurethane Silent Ride stability blocks, which sit between the helper spring stack and the factory main spring to eliminate the metal-to-metal contact that causes the squeaking and creaking that makes other helper spring designs frustrating in daily use. The result is a quiet, clean-functioning load-assist system that provides up to 2,500 lbs of additional level load carrying capacity while remaining largely imperceptible when the truck is empty or lightly loaded.

Installation uses the over-axle method - the helper spring assembly is placed on top of the existing factory leaf spring pack and secured with U-bolts that clamp to the main spring stack. No factory spring disassembly, no center bolt removal, and no spring pack dropping is required, making this a straightforward driveway installation for any mechanically capable truck owner. The kit includes all U-bolts, crossbars, and hardware needed for both sides of the axle. The spring engagement point is adjustable by repositioning the spring stack fore or aft on the main spring, allowing tuning for specific load types, payload weights, and individual preference. The spring leaves are finished in Hellwig's Hammer Tone gray powder coat and the hardware is zinc-plated for long-term corrosion protection in all climates.

Two important notes: first, the kit is a level load system, meaning it does NOT raise the truck's ride height when unloaded - its purpose is to prevent rear sag under load, not to level the truck when empty. Second, vehicles equipped with factory contact overload springs require special attention - in most configurations the factory overload must be removed before the 61912 can be installed. Always verify your specific vehicle year and model in the fitment list before ordering. Made in the USA by Hellwig Products in Visalia, California and backed by a limited lifetime warranty, the 61912 is one of the most trusted helper spring solutions for the Chevrolet and GMC truck platform.
