Fitment Notes

• ALL applications MUST have factory contact overload leaf springs. This kit mounts directly on top of the factory contact overload spring assembly - if your truck does not have factory contact overloads, this product cannot be installed. Verify your truck's spring package before ordering.
• Adding a helper spring does NOT increase the factory Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of the vehicle.
• Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD and GMC Sierra 3500 HD: Single Rear Wheel (SRW) configurations only. Dually (DRW) trucks are not supported.
• Ram 4500 and Ram 5500: Cab and Chassis body style only, SRW configurations. With factory contact overload leaf springs.
• Ford F-250 and F-350 (1988-1998) and F-250/F-350 Super Duty (1999-2015) coverage spans all cab styles and bed/body configurations equipped with the factory contact overload spring package.

Product Description

The Hellwig 9703 Big Wig Contact Helper Spring is a heavy-duty rear overload assist spring kit engineered for trucks equipped with factory contact overload leaf springs - including the Ford F-250 and F-350 from 1988 through 2015, the 2020-2023 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD and GMC Sierra 3500 HD in SRW configuration, and the 2021-2023 Ram 4500/5500 Cab and Chassis. Unlike standard helper springs that mount under the factory U-bolt plates, the 9703 mounts directly on top of the factory contact overload spring assembly, engaging the factory contact pads sooner under load to provide additional spring rate assistance before the factory overload reaches full deflection.

At 2,000 lbs. of level load capacity, the 9703 is designed around the needs of commercial users and heavy towing applications - gooseneck trailers, fifth wheel setups, heavy equipment, and sustained commercial loading that pushes the factory rear spring system to its limits. The 2-leaf spring design braces and stiffens the existing factory contact overload assembly when engaged, substantially reducing rear sag, improving stability, and reducing the tire wear that results from sustained overloaded operation. Critically, the spring does not affect factory ride quality when the truck is empty - it only engages proportionally as load is applied, making it transparent during light-duty use.

The most important requirement is that the truck must already have factory contact overload leaf springs - this kit has no alternative mounting method and cannot be retrofitted to trucks without them. This should be verified before ordering. Installing the 9703 does not increase the truck's factory GVWR rating.
