Product Description

The Hellwig 978 EZ-990 Rear Helper Spring Kit is a medium-duty rear load assist kit engineered specifically for the 2015-2022 Ford F-150 in 2WD and 4WD. The 13th-generation F-150 (2015-2020) and 14th-generation (2021-present) are built on aluminum-intensive body platforms with leaf spring rear suspensions that, while sufficient for general use, can fall short when towing trailers, hauling bed loads approaching maximum payload capacity, or carrying sustained loads over long distances. The 978 addresses this with a single-leaf EZ-990 step-bracket style spring that installs on top of the factory leaf pack without requiring any disassembly of factory components - one of the most installation-friendly helper spring designs Hellwig produces.

The step-bracket design is a key differentiator for this kit: unlike conventional helper springs that require the factory U-bolts to be removed and the spring pack loosened for installation, the 978's step-bracket style clamps over the factory pack with the heavy-duty U-bolts included in the kit. The U-bolts also serve as the adjustment mechanism - tighten to increase spring engagement rate and preload, or loosen to soften the assist. Each side adjusts independently, which is particularly useful for dealing with asymmetrical loads or dialing in proper leveling when trailer tongue weight sits off-center. At 2,000 lbs. of level load capacity, the 978 brings meaningful improvement for most F-150 towing and hauling scenarios without any ride penalty when empty.

An important restriction applies to 2021-2022 model year F-150s: the 978 only fits trucks equipped with 3-leaf rear spring packs. F-150 models with 2-leaf springs or adaptive headlights are not compatible and will require a different helper spring solution. For 2015-2020 models, the kit fits all configurations including aluminum body trucks. Does not fit F-250, F-350, or Raptor.
