Vehicle Fitment

This is a universal racing caliper brake pad. It is not vehicle-specific and is not sold for use with OEM stock calipers. Fitment is determined by caliper model. Compatible racing calipers include:

  • AP Racing CP8250
  • AP Racing (Essex) CP8350-24S4L / CP8350-25S4L / CP8350-26S4L / CP8350-27S4L / CP8350-32S4L / CP8350-33S4L
  • CompBrake Pro Race One
  • StopTech ST-43 / C43
  • Wilwood Narrow Superlite 4 / Narrow Superlite 6 (plate shape 7416)
  • Wilwood Superlite Bridge Bolt
  • Wilwood Superlite 4R / Superlite 6R (plate shape 7416)
  • Wilwood Superlite ST
  • Wilwood Forged Superlite Internal

Fitment Notes

  • This pad is universal for racing calipers - it is not designed for OEM stock brake calipers and has no vehicle-specific fitment.
  • Pad thickness: 0.650 in. This corresponds to Wilwood plate shape 7416. The same pad shape is also available in 0.800 in. thickness (Wilwood plate shape 7420 / AP Racing CP8250D41); verify your specific caliper's required pad thickness before ordering.
  • Some Wilwood Superlite calipers use the bridge bolt retention method, which requires a center mounting hole in the pad. Depending on the specific caliper configuration, the center hole may need to be drilled - verify your caliper's pad retention method before installation.
  • Not compatible with carbon ceramic rotors. For use with iron/metal rotors only.
  • DTC-70 is a pure motorsport compound not suitable for street use. It requires sustained elevated operating temperatures that cannot be achieved in normal road driving. Its extremely high initial bite and torque output would create unpredictable and unsafe braking behavior at cold temperatures on public roads.
  • DTC-70 is Hawk's highest-torque compound for the HB521 shape and is intended for heavier vehicles and platforms with significant tire grip and aerodynamic downforce that can absorb the compound's extreme initial bite. For lighter vehicles or applications where less aggressive initial bite is preferred, DTC-60 (HB521G.650) is the recommended alternative.
  • The standard split-friction race setup pairing DTC-70 at the front caliper with DTC-60 at the rear delivers optimal front-biased brake balance for circuit racing. DTC-70 on both axles is appropriate for platforms generating sufficient tire and downforce to control its extreme torque output.
  • Sold as a set of two pads (one caliper). For a full brake system upgrade, one set per caliper is required.

Features

  • DTC-70 Ferro-Carbon compound - Hawk's highest-torque motorsport formulation in the DTC series, engineered to be the most controllable extreme-torque race pad available, delivering aggressive, high-initial-bite front braking through AP Racing CP8250/CP8350, StopTech ST-43, and Wilwood Superlite calipers under the sustained elevated temperatures of competitive circuit racing, endurance events, and high-downforce applications.
  • Extremely high torque with aggressive controllable initial bite - The DTC-70 provides maximum front brake torque from the first application at operating temperature, enabling the shortest possible braking distances on vehicles with the tire grip and aerodynamic downforce to deploy it fully - making it the compound of choice for Trans-Am, GT1, Sports Prototypes, and heavy sedan classes where maximum deceleration rates are demanded.
  • Superior release and torque control despite extreme output - Hawk's defining achievement with the DTC-70 is that its extreme torque is genuinely controllable - the compound's friction profile allows drivers to modulate brake pressure and achieve clean release at corner exit, rather than the lock-up-prone, all-or-nothing behavior that characterizes less refined high-torque compounds.
  • Designed to perform when very hot - The DTC-70 delivers its best performance at the higher end of its operating window. On vehicles generating sufficient brake temperatures through high-speed circuit racing, sustained downforce-loaded braking zones, or endurance competition, the compound reaches peak friction output and maintains it consistently without fade.
  • Wide high-temperature operating range - 400-1,600°F total range with an 800-1,200°F optimal window, covering the extreme sustained brake temperatures generated in Trans-Am, CART, GT1, Formula Atlantic, and endurance racing applications where AP Racing and Wilwood caliper systems are commonly deployed.
  • Superior pad and disc wear at operating temperature - The DTC-70's friction material delivers competitive rotor and pad wear characteristics relative to other extreme-torque compounds, extending service intervals in competition use when the system is operating within its intended thermal range.
  • Race-validated at the highest levels of motorsport - Proven in Trans-Am, GT1, CART, Formula Atlantic, F2000, F3000, and Sports Prototype applications where maximum front brake torque from AP Racing and Wilwood caliper systems is the primary performance requirement.
  • 100% asbestos, lead, chromium, cadmium, and antimony free - Manufactured in an ISO-certified facility to strict quality and environmental standards.

Product Description

The Hawk HB521U.650 DTC-70 brake pads bring Hawk's top-tier maximum-torque motorsport compound to the HB521 pad shape at 0.650 in. thickness, fitting AP Racing CP8250 and CP8350 (Essex), CompBrake Pro Race One, StopTech ST-43/C43, and the Wilwood Superlite family of racing calipers using the 7416 plate shape. The DTC-70 is the most aggressive compound available for the HB521 shape and sits at the apex of Hawk's DTC lineup - delivering extreme initial bite, maximum sustained torque, and a 400-1,600°F operating range (optimal: 800-1,200°F) calibrated specifically for the sustained high brake temperatures generated in Trans-Am, GT1, CART, Formula Atlantic, F2000, F3000, and Sports Prototype competition.

What distinguishes the DTC-70 from simply being the hardest-biting compound in the lineup is that Hawk engineered it to remain controllable at extreme torque levels. The compound's friction profile enables genuine modulation - drivers can vary brake pressure progressively and release cleanly rather than fighting a binary lock/release behavior. This controllability is what makes DTC-70 viable at the front axle of high-downforce, high-grip race vehicles running AP Racing and Wilwood calipers, where the combination of large caliper clamping force and maximum friction coefficient would otherwise make precise brake modulation impossible. On the right vehicle - heavy, high-downforce, with sufficient tire grip to absorb the torque - the DTC-70 produces the shortest possible braking distances available from these calipers.

DTC-70 requires sustained operating temperatures and must not be used for street driving or casual track days where brake temperatures remain below its effective range. For HPDE events or track days where extreme temperatures are not consistently achieved, DTC-60 (HB521G.650) is the more appropriate choice. At 0.650 in. thickness, this pad is specific to the Wilwood 7416 plate configuration; the same DTC-70 compound is available at 0.800 in. (HB521U.800) for 7420-plate calipers. Verify your caliper's required pad thickness and retention method - bridge bolt Wilwood configurations may require the center hole to be drilled. Compatible with iron and metal rotors only; carbon ceramic brake discs are not supported.
