Vehicle Fitment

This is a universal racing caliper brake pad. It is not vehicle-specific and is not sold for use with OEM stock calipers. Fitment is determined by caliper model. Compatible racing calipers include:

  • Wilwood Billet Dynalite (BDL) - cotter pin retainer version (Wilwood pad shape 7112)
  • Wilwood Forged Dynalite (FDL) - cotter pin retainer version (Wilwood pad shape 7112)

Fitment Notes

  • This pad is universal for racing calipers - it is not designed for OEM stock brake calipers and has no vehicle-specific fitment.
  • This pad fits only the cotter pin retainer versions of the Wilwood Dynalite caliper family. It is not compatible with Bridge Bolt versions of the Wilwood Dynalite or Superlite calipers, which require a different pad shape (HB521 series).
  • This pad has the same dimensions as the classic Hawk HB100 pad and is fully interchangeable with it in the Wilwood 4-piston Dynalite caliper. The HB540 differs only in having some non-critical material removed from the backing plate.
  • Wilwood pad shape reference: 7112.
  • Not compatible with carbon ceramic rotors. For use with iron/metal rotors only.
  • DTC-70 is a pure motorsport compound not suitable for street use. It requires sustained elevated operating temperatures that cannot be achieved in normal road driving. Its extremely high initial bite and torque output would create unpredictable and unsafe braking behavior at cold temperatures on public roads.
  • DTC-70 is Hawk's highest-torque compound in the DTC series and is intended for heavier vehicles and platforms generating significant tire grip and aerodynamic downforce that can absorb the compound's extreme initial bite. For lighter vehicles or applications requiring more manageable initial bite, DTC-60 (HB540G.490) is the recommended alternative.
  • The standard split-friction race setup pairs DTC-70 at the front caliper with DTC-60 at the rear. DTC-70 on both axles is appropriate for platforms generating sufficient downforce and grip to control its torque output.
  • Sold as a set of 4 pads (one axle / two calipers). For a full front-and-rear race brake upgrade, two sets are required.

Features

  • DTC-70 Ferro-Carbon compound - Hawk's highest-torque motorsport formulation in the DTC series, delivering extreme initial bite and maximum sustained braking torque through the Wilwood BDL and FDL calipers under the sustained elevated temperatures of competitive circuit racing, endurance events, and high-downforce applications where maximum deceleration rates are demanded.
  • Extremely high torque with aggressive controllable initial bite - The DTC-70 provides maximum braking torque from the first application at operating temperature, enabling the shortest possible braking distances on vehicles with the tire grip and aerodynamic loading to deploy it fully - making it the standard choice for Trans-Am, GT1, Sports Prototypes, and heavy sedan classes running Wilwood Dynalite systems.
  • Superior release and torque control despite extreme output - Hawk's defining achievement with the DTC-70 is that its extreme torque remains genuinely controllable, with a friction profile that allows drivers to modulate pressure and achieve clean caliper release at corner exit rather than the all-or-nothing behavior that limits less refined high-torque compounds.
  • Designed to perform at high temperatures - The DTC-70 delivers its best performance at the higher end of its 400-1,600°F operating window. On vehicles generating sufficient brake temperatures through high-speed circuit racing, downforce-loaded braking zones, or endurance competition, the compound reaches peak friction output and sustains it consistently without fade.
  • Wide high-temperature operating range - 400-1,600°F total range with an 800-1,200°F optimal window, covering the extreme sustained brake temperatures generated in Trans-Am, CART, GT1, Formula Atlantic, and endurance racing applications where Wilwood Dynalite caliper systems are widely deployed.
  • Compatible with both BDL and FDL Dynalite calipers - The HB540 pad shape (Wilwood 7112) fits both the Billet Dynalite and Forged Dynalite families with cotter pin retention, making it the universal DTC-70 compound choice across Wilwood's most widely used racing caliper designs.
  • Race-validated at the highest levels of motorsport - Proven in Trans-Am, GT1, CART, Formula Atlantic, F2000, F3000, and Sports Prototype applications where maximum braking torque from Wilwood caliper systems is the primary performance requirement.
  • 100% asbestos, lead, chromium, cadmium, and antimony free - Manufactured in an ISO-certified facility to strict quality and environmental standards.

Product Description

The Hawk HB540U.490 DTC-70 brake pads deliver Hawk's top-tier maximum-torque motorsport compound to the Wilwood Billet Dynalite (BDL) and Forged Dynalite (FDL) calipers with cotter pin retention, using Wilwood's 7112 pad shape. This is the same pad shape as the classic Hawk HB100, sharing identical dimensions - the HB540 differs only in having some non-critical material removed from the backing plate, and both pads are fully interchangeable in the Wilwood 4-piston Dynalite caliper. The critical fitment distinction is the retention method: this pad is for cotter pin versions only and is not compatible with Bridge Bolt Dynalite or Superlite calipers, which use the HB521 shape.

DTC-70 is the maximum-torque selection for drivers who have determined that lower-torque compounds are insufficient for their application - typically heavy, high-downforce, high-grip race vehicles in Trans-Am, GT1, CART, Formula Atlantic, and Sports Prototype classes where the Wilwood Dynalite caliper's clamping force combined with DTC-70's friction coefficient delivers the shortest possible braking distances. Hawk designed the DTC-70 to be controllable despite its extreme torque: the compound's friction profile allows genuine pressure modulation and clean release at corner exit, preventing the lock-up-prone all-or-nothing behavior that would otherwise make a maximum-torque compound unmanageable on competition vehicles. DTC-70 performs best when very hot - its 800-1,200°F optimal window requires sustained high-speed circuit braking to reach peak output - and should not be used for HPDE events or track days where brake temperatures remain below its effective range.

Sold as a set of 4 pads (one axle / two calipers). A second set is required for a complete front-and-rear race brake upgrade. Compatible with iron and metal rotors only; carbon ceramic brake discs are not supported.
