Fitment Notes

  • Position: Front axle only for all applications listed above.
  • FMSI Caliper Reference: D749.
  • Not compatible with carbon ceramic rotors. For use with iron/metal rotors only.
  • All 4th generation F-body Camaro and Firebird variants from 1998-2002 share the same front brake caliper and pad dimensions, covering the V6 3.8L and LS1 5.7L V8 engine variants without exception.
  • The Firebird Firehawk was a limited-production SLP-modified Trans Am available only in 1998 for this generation; it uses the standard F-body front caliper and is covered by this fitment.
  • A separate rear pad (FMSI D751) is required for the rear axle - this pad is for the front axle only.

Features

  • HPS (High Performance Street) Ferro-Carbon compound - Hawk's legendary street performance formula, developed using aerospace and motorsport friction technology to deliver a meaningful increase in stopping power over OEM pads while maintaining the drivability, noise, and dust characteristics required for a daily-driven or dual-purpose Camaro or Firebird.
  • 20-40% more stopping power over stock - The HPS compound's higher coefficient of friction provides noticeably shorter stopping distances compared to standard replacement pads, delivered consistently whether the brakes are cold or at full operating temperature.
  • Effective from dead cold through spirited driving - The HPS formula operates from ambient temperature through 700°F (optimal: 100-500°F), delivering consistent front brake performance from the first stop of a morning drive all the way through a sustained autocross or canyon run.
  • Excellent fade resistance for a street compound - Maintains consistent braking force under repeated heavy applications that would overwhelm standard OEM pads - particularly important on heavier V8 Camaro SS and Trans Am platforms where sustained front brake heat is a real concern.
  • Gentle on rotors with extended pad life - The Ferro-Carbon formulation minimizes disc surface wear compared to harder track compounds, preserving the Camaro and Firebird's factory front rotors and reducing long-term brake maintenance costs on a daily-driven performance car.
  • Low dust output - Produces measurably less brake dust than OEM replacement pads, keeping the 4th-gen F-body's wheels cleaner between washes without sacrificing performance.
  • Virtually noise-free operation - The HPS compound's progressive, linear friction profile and Ferro-Carbon formulation minimize squeal and harshness across all operating temperatures and seasonal driving conditions.
  • High friction/torque hot or cold - The HPS compound does not require a warm-up cycle to deliver improved braking; it performs effectively from the very first pedal application.
  • 100% asbestos, lead, chromium, cadmium, and antimony free - Manufactured in an ISO-certified facility to strict quality and environmental standards.

Product Description

The Hawk HB249F.575 HPS front brake pads are purpose-built for the front axle of the 4th generation Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird (1998-2002), covering every trim level from the V6-powered Base to the LS1-powered Z28, SS, Formula, and Trans Am. All 1998-2002 F-body variants - regardless of engine or trim - share the same front brake caliper (FMSI D749), making this a single universal upgrade across the entire model range. The 1998 Firebird Firehawk, a limited SLP-modified Trans Am, also uses this same front caliper and is covered by this fitment.

The HPS compound delivers 20-40% more stopping power than OEM replacement pads and operates effectively from ambient temperature through 700°F - a critical advantage on heavy performance cars like the LS1-powered SS and Trans Am, where sustained front brake heat during spirited driving or autocross can overwhelm standard compounds. The HPS provides consistent, fade-resistant deceleration from the first cold stop of the day through extended aggressive driving sessions, with a progressive pedal feel that builds driver confidence without introducing the noise or rotor abrasiveness associated with harder performance compounds. For 4th-gen F-body owners who want a straightforward front brake upgrade that delivers real-world improvement in stopping distance, pedal feel, and fade resistance on the street and at autocross events, the HB249F.575 is the benchmark choice.

This pad is for the front axle only. A separate rear pad is required for a complete brake pad upgrade. Compatible with iron and metal rotors only; carbon ceramic brake discs are not supported.
