Fitment Notes

  • FMSI Caliper Reference: D738.
  • Not compatible with carbon ceramic rotors. For use with iron/metal rotors only. All fitments marked "Exc. Ceramic Composite Brakes" require standard iron disc rotors - the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) option uses a different caliper and carbon ceramic discs that are incompatible with any Ferro-Carbon pad.
  • This pad fits the rear axle on the vast majority of listed applications. The front axle fitment applies only to the 1998 Boxster S (986) and 2005-2006 Boxster S (987). All other applications listed above are rear-axle fitments only.
  • The 996-generation 911 Carrera fitment covers the base Carrera and Carrera 4 only; the 996 GT3, GT2, and Turbo use larger, distinct front and rear calipers and require different pads.
  • The 997-generation 911 fitment covers the base Carrera and Carrera 4 (2005-2008) only. The 997 Carrera S, GT3, and Turbo use the larger PCCB-optional or fixed-caliper braking systems requiring different pads.
  • DTC-60 is a pure motorsport compound not suitable for street use. It requires sustained operating temperatures that cannot be reliably achieved in normal road driving.
  • The recommended split-friction race setup for these Porsche platforms is DTC-70 at the front with DTC-60 at the rear, providing optimal front-to-rear brake bias for circuit racing.

Features

  • DTC-60 Ferro-Carbon compound - Hawk's high-torque motorsport formulation with less initial bite than the DTC-70, engineered for vehicles running at high deceleration rates with or without aerodynamic downforce - a profile that matches the rear braking demands of the 911, Boxster, and Cayman on circuit.
  • Superior release and torque control - The DTC-60's precise brake release at corner exit is a defining characteristic of the compound and is particularly valuable on the Boxster and Cayman's mid-engine RWD layout, where clean rear brake release is essential for stable, neutral cornering behavior.
  • Very low abrasive rotor wear - Despite its motorsport classification, the DTC-60 delivers high braking torque with minimal abrasive wear on disc surfaces, making it viable across extended track sessions and race weekends without accelerated rotor replacement.
  • Wide operating temperature range - 400-1,600°F total operating range with an optimal zone of 700-1,100°F, providing consistent rear brake performance from early in a track session through sustained high-load braking without fade.
  • Excellent modulation and consistent pedal feel - The DTC-60 maintains a stable friction coefficient across the full temperature range, delivering repeatable, confidence-inspiring brake torque that allows precise lap-to-lap consistency on circuit.
  • Ideal rear compound in a DTC-70/DTC-60 split setup - On heavier Porsche 911 platforms, running DTC-60 at the rear with DTC-70 at the front balances aggressive front bite against controlled rear torque, reducing the risk of rear oversteer under hard trailing brake inputs.
  • Race-validated across multiple motorsport disciplines - The DTC-60 compound has been proven in Sports Car/GT/GS, pavement circle track, NASCAR/NASCAR modified, ARCA, Open Wheel/Formula, and related series.
  • 100% asbestos, lead, chromium, cadmium, and antimony free - Manufactured in an ISO-certified facility.

Product Description

The Hawk HB290G.583 DTC-60 brake pads cover the rear axle of a broad range of Porsche 911, Boxster, and Cayman platforms spanning the 996-generation 911 (1998-2005), the 997-generation 911 Carrera base and Carrera 4 (2005-2008), the 986-generation Boxster and Boxster S (1998-2004), and the 987-generation Boxster S and Cayman S (2005-2012) - all using the FMSI D738 rear caliper on iron disc setups. On select 986 and early 987 Boxster S applications, this same pad also serves as the front axle pad, making it a versatile compound across multiple Porsche platforms. All applications exclude cars equipped with the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) option, which uses an entirely different caliper and carbon ceramic disc system incompatible with any iron-rotor compound.

On these Porsche platforms, the DTC-60 is the standard choice for the rear axle in a split-friction race setup pairing DTC-70 at the front. This configuration takes advantage of the DTC-60's less aggressive initial bite and superior release characteristics at the rear, which are critically important on both the 911's rear-engine RWD layout and the Boxster and Cayman's mid-engine RWD architecture. In both cases, excessive rear brake torque under trail-braking can destabilize the car at corner entry - the DTC-60's controlled, progressive rear engagement prevents this while still delivering the high sustained friction necessary for track braking demands. The compound operates across 400-1,600°F (optimal: 700-1,100°F), and its very low abrasive rotor wear compared to other high-torque race compounds means rear iron discs remain usable across full race weekends without requiring replacement between sessions.

DTC-60 is a track-only compound and must not be used for street driving. Its elevated temperature requirements mean it cannot reach full operating performance in normal road driving conditions, and its aggressive friction characteristics would create unpredictable cold-braking behavior on public roads. The HB290G.583 is sold as a set of two pads and is compatible with iron and metal rotors only; PCCB and all other carbon ceramic brake systems are not supported.
