Vehicle Fitment

  • 1993-1998 Toyota Supra Turbo (A80 / JZA80, 3.0L 2JZ-GTE Twin-Turbo I6, RWD) - Rear

Fitment Notes

  • Position: Rear axle only.
  • FMSI Caliper Reference: D630.
  • Not compatible with carbon ceramic rotors. For use with iron/metal rotors only.
  • This pad fits the Supra Twin Turbo (2JZ-GTE) only. The naturally aspirated Supra (2JZ-GE) uses a different, smaller rear brake caliper and is not compatible with this part number.
  • The 1996 model year Supra Turbo was available with automatic transmission only in the US market due to OBD-II certification requirements. The 1997-1998 model years resumed manual transmission availability. This pad is compatible across all transmission types for all model years listed.
  • Both the standard Sport Roof (targa) and fixed-roof coupe body styles of the Supra Turbo use the same rear brake caliper and are covered by this fitment.
  • For Supra Turbo owners who have performed a non-turbo (NA) to turbo rear brake conversion using factory TT rear calipers, this pad is the correct rear friction material for that upgraded setup.

Features

  • HPS (High Performance Street) Ferro-Carbon compound - Hawk's world-renowned street performance formula developed with the safety engineering of aerospace design and the friction technology of motorsports, delivering a meaningful increase in stopping power over OEM pads while maintaining full street manners.
  • 20-40% more stopping power over stock - The HPS compound provides a higher coefficient of friction than standard replacement pads, translating to noticeably shorter stopping distances from the twin-turbo Supra's substantial 3,300-lb curb weight.
  • Effective from ambient temperature - The HPS formula operates from dead cold through 700°F (100-500°F optimal), delivering confident, consistent rear brake performance whether the brakes are cold at the start of a drive or fully heat-cycled after sustained spirited use.
  • Excellent fade resistance for a street compound - Withstands the heat demands of sustained high-speed braking on the Supra platform, providing meaningful fade resistance over OEM pads during spirited canyon runs, autocross events, and light track use.
  • Gentle on rotors with extended pad life - The Ferro-Carbon formulation is designed to minimize wear on rear disc surfaces, helping preserve the Supra's factory rear rotors and reduce long-term brake maintenance costs.
  • Low dust output - Produces measurably less brake dust than most OEM replacement compounds, helping keep the Supra's wheels cleaner between washes without sacrificing stopping power.
  • Virtually noise-free operation - Engineered for quiet, smooth engagement at the pad-rotor interface across all operating temperatures - an important characteristic on a high-profile sports car where brake squeal is unacceptable.
  • Consistent brake release characteristics - Provides clean, linear brake release at corner exit, supporting precise throttle-to-brake transitions and maintaining rear traction stability on the Supra's RWD platform.
  • Integrally molded without shims - No hardware is required; the compound is bonded directly to the backing plate, eliminating shim migration or rattle at temperature.
  • 100% asbestos, lead, chromium, cadmium, and antimony free - Manufactured in an ISO-certified facility to strict quality and environmental standards.

Product Description

The Hawk HB216F.590 HPS rear brake pads are purpose-built for the rear axle of the 1993-1998 Toyota Supra Turbo (A80 / JZA80), one of the most celebrated sports cars in automotive history. Powered by the legendary 3.0L 2JZ-GTE twin-turbocharged inline-six producing 321 hp and 315 lb-ft of torque in US specification, the A80 Supra Turbo demands rear brake pads that can handle the thermal and mechanical demands of a powerful, near-3,400-lb rear-wheel-drive platform - and that can do so without the noise, dust, and abrasiveness that would be unacceptable on such an iconic car.

The HPS compound delivers 20-40% more stopping power than OEM rear pads and provides excellent fade resistance across the typical operating envelope of street driving, spirited canyon use, and light autocross duty. It operates effectively from ambient temperature through 700°F (optimal: 100-500°F), meaning there is no warm-up requirement and the pads perform consistently from the very first hard stop of a drive. The Ferro-Carbon formulation is gentle on the Supra's factory rear rotors and produces lower dust output than standard replacement pads - helping maintain the appearance of the Supra's iconic 17-inch wheels between washes. The HPS compound also delivers consistent, linear brake release characteristics that support precise cornering entries and exits on the Supra's fully independent rear suspension chassis.

This pad is compatible with the Supra Twin Turbo (2JZ-GTE) rear caliper only. The naturally aspirated Supra (2JZ-GE) uses a different, smaller rear caliper and requires a separate pad. This fitment covers all model years 1993-1998, both the Sport Roof targa and fixed-roof coupe body styles, and all transmission variants including the Getrag W58 5-speed, V160 6-speed manual, and A340E 4-speed automatic. The HB216F.590 is sold as a set of two rear pads and is compatible with iron and metal rotors only; carbon ceramic brake discs are not supported.
