Fitment Notes

  • Front axle application only - FMSI D1179, NC chassis (2006-2015).
  • Paired with HB523 series rear pads (D1180) for a complete NC Miata race pad setup.
  • For serious circuit racing and high-performance track use only - not suitable for street daily driving or entry-level track days.
  • Not compatible with carbon ceramic rotors; designed for iron/metal rotors only.
  • Expect significantly increased noise, dust, and rotor wear compared to street or intermediate race compounds.
  • Requires a proper race bed-in procedure after installation; pads must reach operating temperature before performing at peak.
  • No shims, hardware, or electronic wear sensor included.

Features

  • DTC-70 delivers Hawk's highest torque output - engineered with extremely aggressive initial bite for maximum circuit braking performance on the NC Miata platform.
  • Exceptional torque control and superb modulation characteristics allow precise, late-braking entries even at sustained circuit speeds.
  • Superior release characteristics minimize brake drag and support aggressive trail-braking technique.
  • High temperature operating range of 400-1600°F with an optimal window of 800-1200°F - built for sustained hard braking over multiple race sessions.
  • Superior pad and rotor wear life for a top-tier race compound - suitable for sprint and endurance racing formats.
  • Works as a standalone front compound or in split-friction setups with DTC-60 or DTC-30 on the rear axle.
  • Proven in NASCAR, Sports Car/GT, Open Wheel/Formula, and ARCA competition.
  • Backed by Hawk's limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.

Product Description

The Hawk HB522U.565 DTC-70 front brake pads are engineered for the front axle of the 2006-2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata NC chassis - covering all NC1, NC2, and NC3 trim levels - using the FMSI D1179 front caliper. The DTC-70 is Hawk's most aggressive and highest-torque motorsport compound, designed for experienced racers who have already outgrown the Blue 9012, DTC-30, or intermediate compounds and need maximum stopping bite at the highest circuit speeds. For the NC Miata, the DTC-70 brings professional-level braking performance to a platform known for its balance and precision - delivering the kind of late, hard braking that separates championship-level lap times from competitive ones.

Due to the DTC-70's high optimal temperature window of 800-1200°F, these pads require sustained hard braking to reach their performance peak and must not be used on the street or in low-intensity track applications where they cannot be properly heat-cycled. Many NC Miata racers running DTC-70 up front will pair it with a lower-torque compound like DTC-60 or DTC-30 on the rear to optimize front-to-rear brake bias. A thorough race bed-in procedure is mandatory after installation before competitive use.
