Fitment Notes

  • Position: Front axle only for all applications listed above.
  • FMSI Caliper Reference: D1009.
  • Not compatible with carbon ceramic rotors. For use with iron/metal rotors only.
  • This pad covers all 2004-2011 Mazda RX-8 trims and both Standard and Sport Suspension configurations. Mazda introduced mid-year production changes during the 2005 model year (effective 10/11/2004) and the 2007 model year (effective 07/31/2006); all pre- and post-change variants within those model years use the same FMSI D1009 front caliper and are covered.
  • The RX-8's 1.3L 13B-MSP is a twin-rotor naturally aspirated Renesis rotary engine used across all US-market RX-8 models throughout the 2004-2011 production run. All configurations are rear-wheel drive.
  • OE shims are included with this pad for direct-fit OEM caliper installation on all listed applications.
  • A separate rear pad is required for a complete front-and-rear brake upgrade.

Features

  • HPS (High Performance Street) Ferro-Carbon compound - Hawk's legendary street performance formula, engineered using aerospace and motorsport friction technology, delivering a significant increase in stopping power over OEM front pads while maintaining the quiet operation, low dust, and rotor compatibility demanded of a daily-driven performance car.
  • 20-40% more stopping power over stock - The HPS compound's higher coefficient of friction provides noticeably shorter front stopping distances compared to OEM pads, delivered consistently whether the brakes are cold at the start of a morning drive or at full operating temperature during spirited canyon running.
  • Effective from ambient temperature through spirited use - Operates from dead cold through 700°F (optimal: 100-500°F), providing improved front brake performance from the very first application without requiring any warm-up cycle - making it well-suited to the RX-8's dual role as an engaging daily driver and capable weekend performance car.
  • Excellent fade resistance for a street compound - Withstands the sustained heat generated during back-to-back hard front brake applications at autocross events, canyon driving, and light track use, well beyond the thermal threshold that causes OEM front pads to fade on the RX-8's rotary-powered, driver-focused platform.
  • Gentle on front rotors with extended pad life - The Ferro-Carbon formulation minimizes abrasive wear on the RX-8's front disc surfaces, helping extend both the friction material and rotor service life compared to more aggressive performance compounds.
  • Low dust output - Produces measurably less brake dust than many OEM replacement compounds, keeping the RX-8's front wheels cleaner over time without sacrificing the stopping performance improvement over stock.
  • Virtually noise-free operation - Engineered for quiet, smooth front brake engagement across all operating temperatures and seasonal conditions, preserving the refined, daily-driver character of the RX-8 without squeal or harshness.
  • Consistent brake release characteristics - Delivers a clean, predictable linear release at the front axle, supporting the precise trail-braking and modulation that the RX-8's near-50/50 weight distribution and rear-wheel-drive chassis reward.
  • 100% asbestos, lead, chromium, cadmium, and antimony free - Manufactured in an ISO-certified facility to strict quality and environmental standards.

Product Description

The Hawk HB470F.643 HPS front brake pads fit every 2004-2011 Mazda RX-8 trim - Base, 40th Anniversary Edition, Shinka, Touring, Sport, Grand Touring, and R3 - across both Standard and Sport Suspension configurations, all sharing the FMSI D1009 front caliper. The HPS compound delivers 20-40% more stopping power than OEM front pads and operates from ambient cold through 700°F, making it an immediately noticeable upgrade for any RX-8 driver seeking better front brake performance without sacrificing the quiet, clean, daily-driver characteristics that make the HPS compound the benchmark street performance pad.

The RX-8's 1.3L 13B-MSP Renesis rotary engine and near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution create a chassis that rewards precise, progressive front brake input - exactly what the HPS compound delivers. The low-dust, near-silent operation keeps the car presentable as a daily driver, while the improved fade resistance means front brake performance stays consistent across back-to-back hard stops at autocross events and light track days where OEM pads on the RX-8 routinely reach their thermal limit. Mazda made mid-year brake production changes during the 2005 and 2007 model years, but both pre- and post-change variants within each of those years share the same D1009 caliper and are fully covered.

This pad is for the front axle only. A separate rear pad is required for a complete brake upgrade. Compatible with iron and metal rotors only; carbon ceramic brake discs are not supported.
