  • 2001, 2004-2005 Mazda Miata LS (NB / NB2, 1.8L BP I4, RWD) w/ Sport Suspension - Front
  • 2001-2003 Mazda Miata SE (NB / NB2, 1.8L BP I4, RWD) w/ Sport Suspension - Front

  • 2004-2005 Mazda Mazdaspeed Miata (NB2, 1.8L BP Turbocharged I4, RWD) - Front

Fitment Notes

  • Position: Front axle only for all applications listed above.
  • FMSI Caliper Reference: D890.
  • Not compatible with carbon ceramic rotors. For use with iron/metal rotors only.
  • This pad fits only 2001-2005 Mazda Miata models equipped with the Sport Suspension (also referred to as the Hard Suspension or Sport Package) option, which came with a larger front brake caliper (FMSI D890). Standard NB Miatas without the Sport Suspension option use a smaller front caliper (FMSI D635) and require a different pad - this pad will not fit those cars.
  • The 2004-2005 Mazdaspeed Miata uses the same front caliper as the Sport Suspension NB2 and is fully compatible without requiring the separate Sport Suspension option.
  • The 1999-2000 NB1 Miata is not covered by this fitment - the Sport Suspension brake upgrade with the D890 front caliper was introduced on the refreshed NB2 platform in 2001.
  • OE clips and shims are included with this pad for direct-fit OEM caliper installation.
  • HP Plus is an autocross and track day compound. It delivers noticeably more initial bite than HPS and can generate increased dust and noise. It is streetable to and from track events but is not optimized for quiet, comfortable daily driving.

Features

  • HP Plus Ferro-Carbon compound - Hawk's benchmark autocross and track day formulation for the Sport Suspension NB Miata, engineered to deliver fade-resistant, high-torque front braking at autocross events, HPDE sessions, and club racing competition where the OEM front pads reach their thermal limit quickly on the Sport Suspension's larger front discs.
  • Wide operating temperature range - 100-800°F total operating range with a 300-600°F optimal window, allowing the HP Plus to deliver consistent front brake performance across the full thermal cycle of an autocross or track day event without fade - a meaningful upgrade over the OEM or standard street replacement pads fitted to the Sport Suspension Miata.
  • Strong cold bite with excellent fade resistance - Unlike compounds that require sustained heat to reach peak friction, the HP Plus provides effective front brake torque from a cold start, making it practical for dual-use drivers who drive their Miata to an autocross event, run the car competitively, and drive home afterward.
  • Smooth and predictable torque - The HP Plus compound's progressive engagement at the front axle supports confident trail-braking and threshold braking in the NB Miata's inherently well-balanced chassis, allowing competitive autocross drivers to exploit the car's front-to-rear brake bias precisely.
  • Fade resistant under repetitive hard braking - The HP Plus sustains consistent front brake performance across back-to-back stops at autocross events and track sessions, where OEM and standard street pads on the Sport Suspension NB Miata typically begin to fade well before the end of a run group.
  • Lower rotor wear than dedicated race compounds - The HP Plus Ferro-Carbon formulation produces lower front disc wear than DTC-series compounds while delivering substantially more performance than street pads, extending front rotor service life even with regular competitive driving.
  • Streetable for dual-use driving - Designed to be driven on public roads to and from events, the HP Plus provides the practical versatility that NB Miata owners who use their cars for both daily transportation and competition demand.
  • 100% asbestos, lead, chromium, cadmium, and antimony free - Manufactured in an ISO-certified facility to strict quality and environmental standards.

Product Description

The Hawk HB431N.606 HP Plus front brake pads are purpose-built for the front axle of the 2001-2005 Mazda Miata (NB / NB2) equipped with the Sport Suspension package and the 2004-2005 Mazdaspeed Miata, all using the larger FMSI D890 front caliper. The Sport Suspension option - offered on Base, LS, SE, and Shinsen trims - came with stiffer springs, a strut tower brace, and critically, an upgraded front brake caliper that is dimensionally different from the standard NB Miata's D635 front caliper. This pad is specific to that Sport Suspension caliper only; it will not fit standard NB Miatas without the Sport Suspension option.

The HP Plus compound sits directly above the HPS in Hawk's performance hierarchy, delivering more front brake torque, a stronger initial bite, and superior fade resistance at the cost of slightly more dust and noise. For the Sport Suspension NB Miata used at autocross events, track days, and HPDE sessions, this trade-off is precisely the right compromise - the HP Plus sustains consistent, fade-free front brake performance from cold through full operating temperature across back-to-back runs, where standard street compounds regularly reach their thermal ceiling. The 100-800°F operating range with a 300-600°F optimal window ensures effective friction from ambient cold on the first autocross run of the morning through sustained hard braking late in a track day session.

The 2004-2005 Mazdaspeed Miata - Mazda's factory-turbocharged NB2 variant - uses the same D890 front caliper and is fully covered by this fitment. For a complete front and rear brake upgrade, a matching rear pad (FMSI D891, HB442 shape) is required separately. This pad is compatible with iron and metal rotors only; carbon ceramic brake discs are not supported.
