Fitment Notes

  • Rear axle application only - FMSI D891.
  • Fits 2001-2005 Mazda Miata NB models equipped with the factory Sport Suspension package only - vehicles with standard suspension use a different rear caliper and are not compatible.
  • Frequently paired with HB431W.606 (DTC-30 front) for a matched single-compound race setup, or with a higher-torque front compound for a split-friction configuration.
  • For track, HPDE, and race use only - not recommended for street daily driving.
  • Not compatible with carbon ceramic rotors; designed for iron/metal rotors only.
  • Expect increased noise, dust, and rotor wear compared to street compounds.
  • No shims, hardware, or electronic wear sensor included.

Features

  • DTC-30 compound delivers controllable, medium torque with a smooth, consistent initial bite - tuned for confident, predictable braking on the Miata's lightweight rear axle.
  • Superior release characteristics and smooth pedal feel for precise modulation through corner entries and trail-braking zones.
  • Wide operating temperature range of 100-1200°F with an optimal window of 100-800°F - effective from a cold first lap through sustained track heat cycles.
  • Good pad and rotor wear life for a race-level compound, suited to both sprint and endurance formats.
  • Pairs naturally with HB431W.606 DTC-30 front pads for a balanced, single-compound brake setup across both axles.
  • Proven in dirt and pavement circle track racing, gravel rally, and high-performance driving events.
  • Backed by Hawk's limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.

Product Description

The Hawk HB442W.496 DTC-30 rear brake pads are engineered for the rear axle of the 2001-2005 Mazda Miata NB equipped with the factory Sport Suspension package, and the 2004-2005 Mazdaspeed Miata - all using the FMSI D891 rear caliper. As with all HB442 compound variants, this pad requires the Sport Suspension caliper; Miatas with standard suspension use a different rear caliper and are not compatible. The DTC-30 compound is Hawk's most versatile and controllable multi-purpose race formula, offering smooth initial bite and excellent release that makes it a top choice for Miata racing in formats where predictable, linear braking is prioritized over outright torque.

Running DTC-30 on both axles - paired with HB431W.606 up front - gives Miata racers a well-balanced, consistent brake feel from corner to corner, ideal for SCCA Spec Miata, time attack, and endurance events where confidence and repeatability matter more than maximum stopping bite. The compound's effective temperature range from cold through 1200°F means it works from the very first lap of a cold morning race, without the need for extensive warm-up laps. A proper race bed-in procedure is required after installation, and these pads are not suitable for street driving.
